Mercedes-Benz has recently launched its all new C-Class saloon in Germany and will be presenting the same C-Class in South Africa in August this year. The C-Class emphasizes three elements and these are comfort, agility, and safety.

Each of the Avantgarde, Elegance, and Classic lines emphasize a unique characteristic but share the same technologies such as the Agility Control package which includes a situation-sensor shock absorber control, an Intelligent Light System with five distinct functions and the Pre-Safe preventive occupant protection system. The new C-Class range is also equipped with the same quality auto components such as Mercedes Benz heater core. The Mercedes heater core is a small radiator that helps the primary radiator in cooling the coolant to prevent the possible overheating of the car.

The local specs are to be announced at a later stage and some options may differ from overseas markets. For the overseas theres a choice of four and six-cylinder engines with up to 13 percent more output than the previous model coupled with a six percent lower fuel consumption.

The C-Class Saloon has a length measuring 4581mm and approximately 55mm longer than its predecessor. The body width has also increased by 42mm to 1770mm while the wheelbase has an additional 45mm to 2760mm. these dimensions have enabled the front shoulder room to grow by 40mm.

The design of the new C-Class was derived from the modern Mercedes-Benz approach that includes taut lines, and large tranquil surfaces with the front end highlighting a pronounced wedge-shape. And for the first time in Mercedes Saloon, the radiator grille was used as a distinctive feature to make the model variants more visible in the market.

The sporty Avantgarde model features three extended, horizontal louvers and a big centrally positioned Mercedes-Benz star. The Elegance for its part gets a three-dimensional, louvered radiator grille with a high-gloss paint finish which accentuates comfort and luxury. The Classic model as the name suggests has designed that is traditional despite the fact that it is similar to the other two C-Class models in terms of ride and technical specs.

The engines of the C-Class have been increased by around 18 percent in torque while the four and six cylinder units also feature an improved smoothness. Great attention was also given to the further development of the four-cylinder mills. In the petrol range output of the entry-level C 180 Kompressor has been increased from 105kW to 115kW with maximum torque improved 4.5 percent from the previous 220 to 230 Nm, while the C 200 Kompressor develops 15kW more than before.

It also delivers an output of 135kW and revs up a maximum torque of 250 Nm from 2800rpm. It can sprint from 0 to 100km/h by 0.5 seconds faster that any of the previous models. The new C-Class were also made more economical, the C 180 Kompressor consumes 0.31/100km less than the before. On the other hand the combined fuel consumption of the C 200 Kompressor has been reduced by 0.51/100km.

The C-Class diesel option will focus on enhancement of the four-cylinder unit. There are already several improvements done to the engine, turbocharger and common rail direct injection altering more than 90 components in the process. The said modifications were done by engineers at Stuttgart. And as result of the conducted modification is a new C 220 CDI with a peak output of 125kW from the 110kW previously and delivers a potent torque of 400Nm from the previous 2000rpmagain an 18 percent increase power than before. Similarly fuel consumption has been further reduced by up to 0.31/100km and according to Mercedes Benz the C 220 CDI is capable of traveling 100 km on just 6.1 liters of fuel.

The C-Class offered in Europe remains unchanged with a choice of three petrol units developing 200kW, 170kW, and 150 kW. The new C 320 CDI with its six-cylinder engine has an output of 165 kW. All models in the new C-Class except for the C 350 are equipped with a six-sped transmission featuring Agility Control gearshift as standard. Instead the C350 will get a 7G Tronicthe worlds only 7-speed automatic transmission as standard equipment. This feature is also available for the rest of the six-cylinder C-Class models on request.

Save lots of money. Analysis about buying or leasing a new car isn't necessary as long as cars are a glut on the market.

To own any car for the least possible price and dread doing a lease vs. buy analyses, don't buy the car; lease it then buy it later and save a lot of money.

Exploit the Glut of Cars for Sale
As long as car production is greater than consumption, and big discounts are available for several years to come, just read the market trends and lease it first and ignore all those lease vs. buy programs.

In the past, car manufacturers moved cars by subsidizing leases. The monthly lease cost was lowered by increasing the residual value, which lowered the monthly lease payment, thereby selling (leasing) more cars.

Lease Residual Values are Inflated in your Favor
But the value of the vehicle at the end of the lease was almost always less than the contracted residual and each of the off-lease cars then had to be sold in the wholesale market at a loss of several thousand dollars.

Some of the big backers of lease financing, Chrysler, some New York banks, and others, each lost several hundred million dollars in each of the past two or three years because they had to sell the off-lease cars on the open market for less than the residual value.

Take Advantage of Too Many Cars for Sale
Therefore the buy or lease a new car decision is moot as long as manufacturers are subsidizing leases because they have too many cars to sell; a one-time opportunity is present, namely:, lease it now and buy it at a discount the end of the lease and save thousands of dollars.

Having to make a lease vs. buy decision is no longer necessary as long as supply exceeds demand and the old rules are now dictated by a surplus of cars< on the market, this is the time of opportunity for an car buyer.

Compounding the problem for the heavily unionized manufacturers is that their labor contracts are so juicy that those car manufacturers are better off continuing to give away cars rather than to close a plant and pay unaffordable health and welfare and pension benefits to laid off employees.

This situation will not change for several years until consolidation, plant closings, or bankruptcies have cured the problem. until the. Plant closings will be a last resort.

Therefore the glut of new cars will likely continue for a few years. Now is the prime time to consider taking advantage of a declining resale value of most cars. The subsidized lease will continue to be offered

Should I Buy or Lease a New Car
By initially leasing a car, the maker is essentially offering a price that cant be beaten. It may actually approach or be lower than the employee cost widely advertised. Then buy the car at the end of the lease.

At the end of the car lease the company financially backing the lease most likely will sell the car on the open market at a loss. Why not intervene at that point and buy the car for less than the residual value and put that loss into your pocket as money saved?

Check out your Car's Used Car Value Prior to Lease End
About three months before the end of the lease, cruise the used car lots and notice what your car is being offered at. Note tha the used carprice is always higher than the resiudal value to allow for dealr costs and profit. A ten percent cushion is not unreasonable.

Then compare the asking price on the used car lot with the residual value in your lease contract. The residual value may be larger than the asking price for a similar model on the used car lot. That means that the company owning your leased car will have to sell it at a loss when you turn it in.

Now you put in the knife and buy the car (no commissions paid to anyone on this transaction) at the end of the Lease and keep several thousand dollars in your pocket.

Bypass the Dealer to make your Buyout Offer
From your dealer, get the phone number of the company that owns the car you leased. Call them and offer to buy your leased car for the asking price on the used car lot less about 10% at least.

If they object, point out that they will have to sell the car at a loss because the residual value is more than what the car is worth on the used car lot. They know that, but hate to admit it.

So lease the car of your dreams today and forget about excess mileage charges.

A true-life example
A business friend of mine had a three-year-old leased car with a contract residual value of $28,000. Looking at the used car lot he found he could buy one just like it for $24,000. He assumed the company that financed the lease would loose at least $2,000 in selling it for less than the contracted residual value.

Through the dealer he offered $22,000 to buy the car as is and his offer was promptly accepted, including 3%, 3 year financing. His dealings, all by phone (no face to face negotiations needed) were with the company financing the lease. Just inside the guard gate, the world renowned 17-Mile Drive in Carmel, Calif., begins with a primarily downhill and often winding two-lane road to Pebble Beach Golf Links. The tree-lined route features lavish, oceanfront homes and a predominately forest-like setting along California's central coast.

It's a perfect several-mile locale for drivers who like to shift through gears. And it's not-so-surprisingly pleasant while doing so in the 2005 Honda Accord.

With its V6, six-speed manual transmission offering, the exceedingly popular model crosses categories. The Accord is listed as a midsize vehicle and it's often compared to the Chevrolet Malibu, Nissan Altima and Toyota Camry.

But the 24-valve, 3.0-liter, 240-horsepower coupe is just as much sports car as it is anything else. And it provides one more reason why the Accord in its more than 25 varieties is among the most popular and most often best-buy categorized vehicles on the road.

During my weeklong test drive, I drove the Accord Coupe round-trip from Sacramento to the Monterey Peninsula. The interstate portion of the journey included about 400 miles. I drove the aforementioned section of the 17-Mile Drive six times round-trip on clear, blue sky days and in heavy rain. It made little difference.

In all driving conditions, the Accord Coupe performed with confidence. Steering and handling is responsive and poised. Lane changes are smooth. While not as quick as other vehicles categorized as sports cars, the Accord Coupe accelerates well and finds its ways through gears more than adequately. Its 17-inch wheels further add to the tight road feel. The Accord's ride is also adequately quiet.

Like all Hondas, the Accord Coupe's interior is designed in a straightforward manner. Gauges and all instrumentation are clean and used simply. The navigation system is likewise efficient and easy to learn.

Despite its coupe status, front-seat passengers have comfortable leg, body and head room. Back seat passengers (two fit comfortably) have easy access. Side rear-view vision is slightly impeded by headrests and side pillars. The driver's seat, while comfortable for a six-foot, 185-pound driver, is void of the superior seat cushioning of high-end vehicles.

Standard interior features are plentiful: leather-trimmed seats, AM/FM, six-disc CD with six speakers, XM satellite radio, heated front seats, power window and door locks, illuminated visor vanity mirrors, cruise control, exterior temperature gauge, sunglass holder and well-positioned armrests and storage compartments.

Finding fault with the Accord is difficult, but cargo room could be better, and average city mileage numbers aren't special. Yet, the Honda Accord has built its reputation through the years for good reasons. It does everything well, and offers reliability and great resale value.

Whether a buyer opts for the base LX four-door, four-cylinder sedan, the EX V6 four-door sedan or the EX, V6 coupe, the sportiest model of all, it's hard to improve upon the Accord or find any vehicle with more to offer for the price.

The Nissan Motor Co., Japans third-largest auto manufacturer, is designing a $2,500 car to compete in India with the low-cost model planned by the Tata Motors Ltd, Chief Executive Officer Carlos Ghosn said. We are working on how we can make a car for $2,500, Ghosn told reporters at a dinner in Versailles, France. A Nissan advance engineering group is doing the study, he added.

Automakers are moving quickly to trail Renault SAs footsteps by offering cheaper models for the fast growing markets in Asia, the Middle East and South America. The second-largest automaker in France that owns 44 percent of Nissan will be rolling out its no-frills Logan sedan in Argentina, Brazil, India and Iran. Ghosn heads both Renault and Nissan. Tata, Indias third-biggest car maker, plans to sell a car priced at about $2,500 by the year 2008.

According to government estimates, Indias car market may triple to 3mn vehicles a year by 2015. In India one competitor has announced a car for next year at $2,500, Ghosn said. I take that challenge very seriously. The Nissan CEO already had said in April that the company intends to sell cars in India for less than $3,000.

The Japanese automaker seeks to win business from auto rivals including the Suzuki Motor Corp, whose Maruti Udyog Ltd unit commands a 50 percent market share in India. The Nissan Motor India Private, Ltd also contributes towards social activities with all the employees. The company distributes uniforms and stationeries to schools affected by the recent floods in Mumbai.

If you ask any car manufacturer if they can make money on a car that costs $2,500, the answer is always going to be no, Ghosn noted. Until somebody does it. The Tokyo-based automaker said April 26 that its profit decline 46 percent to 82.2bn yen in the quarter ending March 31 on weak American sales.

In connection with Nissans struggle to alleviate its sales, it will be introducing its next-generation Maxima, which is said to be a true 4DSC (short for 4-Door Sports Car). The new vehicle is not only equipped with the peculiar Nissan clutch master cylinder. This is because the automakers pool of engineers has made the new Maxima more mature and luxurious.

A Nissan insider described the new vehicle as, Unlike anything we've ever done before. The new Maxima will be more aggressive than ever and will flaunt a coupe-like shape, likened to the Mercedes-Benz CLS. The car will also slot from the Z and the upcoming GT-R to strengthen links to the performance machines. Aside from the legendary VQ-series engine, the new Maxima will also feature Nissan's brand new Alliance turbodiesel engine.

The automaker is sending the new Maxima with high hopes. Its striking performance and affordable price could put it back on track. The bolder and high-performance Nissan Altima is set to arrive in 2009.

Nissan will also be releasing the 2007 model year 350Z in Australia. The vehicle is equipped with a more powerful, next-generation engine, revised exterior styling and new exterior color palette. At the heart of the 2007 model year 350Z is Nissans award winning next generation engine - the designated VQ35HR.

Nissan Australias managing director and chief executive officer, Shinya Hannya, commented on the update to the companys halo model in the range: The changes are designed to not only improve on the performance of the 350Z but build on its reputation as one of our best performance sports car.

Separately, the Japanese automaker is happy to announce that its hybrid may continue to claim the Alternative Motor Vehicle Credit. This fact is attested by the Internal Revenue Service. The said announcement came after the IRS concluded its quarterly review of the number of hybrid vehicles sold.

To note, Nissan sold 2,094 qualifying vehicles to retail dealers in the quarter ending March 31, 2007. The allowable credit amount for the 2007 Altima Hybrid, the automakers only certified hybrid vehicle, is $2,350. Taxpayers may claim the full amount of the allowable credit up to the end of the first calendar quarter after the quarter in which the manufacturer records its sale of the 60,000th vehicle.

The growing threat of global warming and the depletion of fossil fuels has forced the auto industry to venture in the development of auto technologies which will reduce dependence on fossil fuels. One technology being explored by car manufacturers is the possible advent of electric cars.

Currently, the auto industry has successfully developed hybrid electric vehicles and fully-electric vehicles as well. These vehicles use an electric motor to aid the vehicles internal combustion engine. One major issue being faced by the auto industry when it comes to the construction of hybrid electric and even fully-electric vehicles is the battery pack which a vehicle needs to have so as to get and store power.

To address the issue, car manufacturers are partnering with other companies outside the auto industry to develop better battery packs for electric cars. One car company which has expressed its dedication to the development of better battery packs is the Japanese car company Nissan. The company recently announced that they have formed an alliance with NEC Tokin, which is a subsidiary of NEC, to develop highly efficient lithium-ion batteries for automotive application.

The partnership aims to make the electric cars more practical. A problem being faced by the electric car technology is the cost of production. If a partnership such as this can find a way to make an electric cars battery cheaper, then electric cars can be within the reach of an even larger number of consumers.

The partnership between two of Japans biggest companies will work on the safety and stability of lithium-ion batteries. This kind of battery is seen as a better alternative to the nickel-metal hydride batteries which is being widely used currently. Lithium-ion batteries weigh less than nickel-metal hydride batteries. It is also more powerful than Ni-MH batteries. In fact, lithium-ion batteries are half the size of nickel-metal hydride batteries but they can store twice as much power as the Ni-MH battery. This battery pack can efficiently power an electric car or its amenities such as power windows controlled by a Nissan window switch.

Investing in the development of an advanced battery pack will positively affect Nissan. After all, it is predicted that the rechargeable car battery market will experience a surge in the near future. The expected expansion of the said market will be the effect of the advent of electric cars. Trusting Dealerships
Many of us just throw our hands up and take our car to the dealership when we have problems with them. If you consider that they are the experts when it comes to your specific make and model it's a smart option, unfortunately it's also a pricey one. When it comes to rare vehicles and some imports it is probably advisable to stick with dealership expertise. Same if you hold an extended warranty purchased from the dealership, at least be sure to stay within their approved mechanic circle to ensure you do not void any part of your warranty.

Lacking the impersonality of chain store mechanics just working for their hourly, this option may cost more than the chain stores do, but could just prove to be worth it in the long run.

Finding the good stuff is never easy, but if you follow the few simple steps below you can at least start off with the best to choose from

1. Look them up with the Better Business Bureau. Right away you can eliminate mechanics who have had negative reports filed about them. Our lives are busy, if someone took the time to report them, they aren't worth a second glance.

2. Utilize organizations such as the ASE, start off with options that are well endorsed.

3. Ask your friends. Everyone knows how hard it is to find a trustworthy mechanic, so be sure to ask around. Usually people are happy to share a good mechanic, lets keep the good ones in business folks.

Following the launch of the all-new Altima and its hybrid variant, production started last Monday on the new coupe version which is a sportier version of Nissan's best-selling model that was primarily designed to draw in new customers to their abode.

The Japanese automaker celebrated the Altima's third launch in seven months at its Smyrna plant which is located just 20 miles south of its relocated headquarters in Nashville. Dubbed as rue coupe, the Altima comes as a two-door model that has a shorter wheelbase and a lower profile than its four-door counterpart.

The 2008 Nissan Altima coupe is set for release on the 25th of this month. The coupe, which was officially launched at the 2006 Los Angeles Auto Show, is engineered to compete against the Toyota Camry Solara, Honda Accord coupe and the Pontiac G6 coupe. The coupe is equipped with reliable Nissan brake pads, and a sport suspension that is mated to two engine choices - the updated VQ35DE, a 270-horsepower 3.5-liter 24-valve DOHC V6 or the QR25DE, a 175-horsepower 2.5-liter DOHC 16-valve inline 4-cylinder. Also, the driver-centered interior offers a 6.5-inch traffic navigation screen, a rearview monitor, as well as a keyless entry and ignition and hands-free phone system.

There's a lot of coupes on the market, some of which are merely shorter versions of their sedan counterparts, but we didn't want to do that, said John Curl, the regional product manager for Nissan. It has the proportions of a coupe and not just a 2-door sedan.

Karl Brauer, the editor in chief of Edmunds.com, said that the coupe's almost completely new body panels add sophisticated styling that differentiates it from the sedan. My first impression was that it looked very upscale, Brauer said. It will cost you considerably less than a G35 and sends a lot of the same messages.

The Nissan Altima coupe will be priced at $20,490. Its price is far below the company's most comparable model, the Infiniti G35 luxury coupe, and the Z sports car. In less than a month, we've had a thousand orders, which is fantastic, said Michelle Erwin, a senior manager in marketing. Japan's No. 3 automaker needs the new coupe, along with the Altima hybrid, to compete with rivals Toyota Motor Corp. and Honda Motor Co. as well as to use it to boost dragging profits. We're optimistic that we're going to get a lot new owners because we've not had a vehicle in this segment at this price range before, Erwin said.

With a broad base of existing Altima customers, Brauer said a coupe was the next logical step to bring in new buyers - especially when sales are down. Nissan marked its first drop in annual profit in seven years in the January-March quarter, the first such setback under the leadership of Carlos Ghosn, who salvaged the Japanese automaker from collapse. A lot of people would readily admit that they've slid, Brauer said. They've stagnated in terms of product and had some duds in terms of sales. The third largest Japanese automaker was in a product lull for over a year before the launch of the new sedan in September.

Sales for the Altima have been strong since the introduction of the new sedan model in September, said Catherine Madden, an automotive analyst with Boston-based Global Insight. Unfortunately other products have lagged.

Auto analysts expect Altimas styling to do well against models already on the market, like the Toyota Camry Solara and the Mitsubishi Eclipse. Nissan has distinguished itself with the consumer and many of their designs have been ahead of other Japanese companies, Madden said. We're expecting strong sales for that product.

Honda also plans to roll out a coupe for the 2008 model year. The production could put a cramp in Nissan's first-year sales. That's where you're going to see a pretty interesting divide among consumers, Brauer noted.

The Altima has been one of the Nissan Motor Co.'s hot selling cars since its introduction in 2001. The second generation, introduced in 2006, toughened the sedan's popularity. To broaden its overall appeal, Nissan introduced a hybrid version of the car in January. And now the much-awaited coupe has arrived.

Compared to other coupes, the Altima is not just a two-door version of the sedan. Nissan engineers has shortened the wheelbase by 101 mm, cut the overall length by 185 mm and lowered the height by 66 mm. The modifications gave the coupe a handsome look that could turn heads.

How distinct is the coupe from the sedan? Well, the only sheet metal shared between two- and four-door Altimas is the hood. The Coupe has been endowed with a pair of idiosyncratic bucket seats with striking side bolsters for extra lateral support. In the back, a 60/40 split rear bench extends the cargo space. The feature is ideal for a weekend of skiing or to hold few odds and sods from the store. Also, a more conventional parking-brake hand lever has also been added to the Coupe, substituting the sedan's foot-operated control.

The other big difference between the models is power. The base car is equipped with a 2.5-litre four-cylinder that generates 175 horsepower and 180 pound-feet of torque. This is more than enough to be amusing when mated to the six-speed manual box. A significant part for the spirited drive is attributed to the transmission's close ratios and a light, progressive clutch that puts the bite point in the precise place. It makes rowing the gears an enjoyable experience notwithstanding the twisty road surface.

In terms of performance and agility, the new Coupe also has plenty to offer. The suspension is made firmer than the sedan. The steering, meanwhile, is also adequately weighted and responsive when turned off-centre. The biggest difference between the two models is the tires. The 2.5 S comes with P215/60R16 Continentals, while the 3.5 SE comes with P215/55R17 Bridgestones.

Other remarkable features of the Coupe include the Nissan headlight bulb, a push-button start, the dual-zone climate control, cruise control and heated seats, power mirrors, windows and sunroof, a six-speaker audio system with an auxiliary plug-in, six air bags and standard anti-lock brakes.

According to critics, the Altima Coupe is going to earn quite a following, simply because it blends an upscale interior with good road manners and affordability. The fact that there are shades of the Infiniti G35 coupe in its bold styling only helps the cause. It will also go a long way in legitimizing the much-maligned CVT.

Nissan recently invited some journalists to test-drive some of their new and revised product lines. Aside from the Altima Coupe, Nissan flaunted the new long-wheelbase Titan, upgraded the Pathfinder with a V8, and the quieter Armada.

The way Nissan explains it, there is a need for this vehicle in the marketplace, even if Toyota has decided to drop its Solara model because of declining sales. Main competitors for the company will be the Honda Accord coupe, Pontiac G6, and the Hyundai Tiburon - all of which the new Nissan entry beats on price in every similarly-equipped head-to-head price battle.

The automaker expects the coupe to be well-liked by women, many of whom will go for the more economical 2.5-liter I-4. Nissan also foresees that the average purchaser of the Coupe to be younger - those not quite ready to take the dive into the more responsible and mature sedan or minivan market. Also, the Coupe is expected to pull in some older purchasers who might want to exercise their free-spirit wings as their kids start leaving the house.

Nissan Announces North American Management Changes

The Nissan Motor Co., Ltd. earlier announced the changes at its North American Sales and Marketing Department. The changes are aimed at furthering the automakers growth in the global automotive industry. With the escalating competition, Nissans drive to sustain profitable development is also accelerating.

Indeed, changes are inevitable. And Nissan is putting its best foot forward to cope with the demands of the industry. But changes not only cover refinement of auto parts like the Nissan header. Management is also one of the crucial factors that should entertain changes as well. As a fact, Nissan Europe and Nissan Canada also announced related changes in senior positions.

The U.S. market is changing and Nissans marketing and sales group must change with it, said Brad Bradshaw, the Senior Vice President for Sales and Marketing for Nissan North America. Since 1999, we have nearly doubled the number of Nissan and Infiniti vehicles we are offering and more are coming.

Bradshaw furthermore added, We have created an architecture that allows us to react faster and with more confidence to changes in the market, to become more flexible and to take advantage of opportunities to enhance the brand recognition of Nissan and Infiniti.

For the Nissan Americas, the changes are effective starting April 1 this year. Christian Meunier, presently the vice president of sales operations in Europe, will become the vice president for the Model Line marketing in North America. Beginning April, Meunier will be liable for model line management to ensure profitable growth for both Nissan and Infiniti portfolios.

Meunier is expected to formulate and develop a model-by-model strategic positioning briefs. He will also be responsible for the launch strategy, coordination, marketing, sales and other corporate communications to ensure the success of the automakers North American Model Line. Meunier will directly report to Bradshaw. Additionally, four model line marketing directors, including one from Infiniti, will report to Meunier.

Since 2002, Meunier has been working at Nissan Europe in the sales and marketing area. Meunier has already established a name in auto sales and marketing. He previously holds the sales and marketing positions with Mercedes-Benz USA, Rover France and Ford France.

Corporate structure is a framework enabling us to implement strategies through the companys greatest asset - its people, said Bradshaw. The new structure will enhance the resources we have to take on challenges and succeed. All these responsibilities are crucial to the successful fulfillment of the Nissan Value-Up business plan and our longer term success in North America.

Another change in management includes Jan Thompson, who currently is the vice president for marketing at Nissan North America. Thompson will become the vice president for marketing communications. She will be concentrating on advertising, interactive marketing as well as other marketing communications activities for Nissan and Infiniti brands. Directors who will be reporting to Thompson will account for interactive marketing and marketing communications.

Other management changes include the following: Dave Mazur, currently the vice president for market intelligence, will be having additional responsibilities of pricing, market planning and brand management. Yuhei Takahashi, who previously handles the responsibilities connected to pricing and brand management, will just finish his U.S assignment and is expected to go back to Japan for a new assignment. Mazurs group will be responsible for segment and vehicle volume forecasts and analyses. It will also be liable for product contract monitoring, pricing and brand tracking.

For Nissan Europe and Canada, changes in management include Simon Thomas, who is currently the vice president for sales and marketing for Nissan Canada, Inc., will replace Meunier as the vice president for sales operations at Nissan Europe. Thomas replacement will be announced at a later time.

The Nissan Pathfinder is a relatively new sport utility vehicle, but it has made its mark on the industry quite clearly from the very beginning. Despite all of the competition in the SUV ranks, the Nissan Pathfinder holds its own without much of a fuss. Going up against the big boys from Toyota and Honda does not seem to bother this SUV.

From the outside, the Nissan Pathfinder appears very large; because it is. But just because the Nissan Pathfinder is a big car does not mean that it is hard to handle on the road. In fact, it is quite maneuverable for a car its size. And if you decide to take your Nissan Pathfinder off road you will notice the same thing; the car is not difficult to get around in.

Nissan Pathfinder, 2006: The Weekly Driver

A long-distance haul means different things to different drivers. For me on one recent journey, it was a 400-plus mile trek from Redondo Beach, Calif. (South of Los Angeles) to Sacramento.

It was a seven-hour day in the car. The trip included the long climb over the infamous Grapevine in Southern California and plenty of flat and high-speed miles along Interstate 5.

The 2006 Nissan Pathfinder was my transportation and the mid-sized SUV, now on the market for two decades, performed well. My test vehicle was the four-wheel drive LE model (with navigation system), the most expensive of the four available models.

Several top manufacturers' current SUV models are seemingly interchangeable, and that includes Pathfinder and its top competitors, the Ford Explorer, Toyota Highlander and Honda Pilot.

I drove my test vehicle nearly 700 miles, including the climb on the steady grade that connects Southern California to the mid-state agricultural valley. And although I never engaged the four-wheel drive feature or carried a heavy load, those are two attributes that distinguish the Pathfinder from rivals.

In addition to mega-interstate miles, I nimbly maneuvered the vehicle through city streets. Parking lots, narrow driveways and U-turns in tight quarters were all handled easily. The vehicle never felt cumbersome. The LE is the only member of the fleet with full-time all-wheel drive, and it can be left engaged on dry pavement. The Pathfinder also has a 6,000-pound towing capacity.

Each of the four Pathfinder models includes a 4.0-liter, 270-horsepower V6. During my trek, the vehicle advanced adequately even while ascending the most difficult climbs. But it did take a heavy throttle to get the job done, and that didn't do much for the one major downfall of most SUVs -- lousy gas mileage.

The Pathfinder is rated at 16 mpg (city) and 23 mpg (highway), but I averaged just under 20 mpg on my trip. Nissan recommends premium fuel, further adding to the not-so-thrifty costs.

The Pathfinder was redesigned in 2005, and both the interior and exterior changes were nicely accomplished, including added width, height and length. The interior has well-placed, cleanly designed gauges and the console and instrument panel are handsome and smartly positioned.

Unlike other SUVs, the Pathfinder has a standard third-row seat. Without removing headrests, the rear row folds level, and the folding front-passenger seatback further builds the cargo room to 79.2 cubic feet. That's among the best in the class.

The Pathfinder LE model has standard 17-inch wheels; other models have 16-inch wheels. The LE also features standard front-side and side curtain airbags (they're optional on other models).

Regardless of model, the Pathfinder's standard equipment list is impressive. It ranges from illuminated visor mirrors to the AM/FM radio with in-dash, six-disc CD/MP3 changer and heated power mirrors and sunroof to a memory system for the driver seat, mirror and pedals.

My test vehicle also included five option packages ranging from the navigation and rear-seat entertainment system to leather and heated front seats. The various options added nearly $8,000 to the vehicle's base price.

The result is a finely equipped SUV that can certainly ease the ordeal of a 400-mile drive and also provide an equally enjoyable ride around town.

Volvo Group now owns 96 percent of Nissan Diesel after the Swedish companys acceptance period offer for the latter expired on the 23rd of this month. The 96 percent voting power of Volvo on Nissan Diesel surpassed the Japanese governments requirement for them to take over the company completely.

Volvo Group is now ready to purchase the remaining shares of Nissan Diesel to completely make Nissan Diesel a part of the Volvo Group. The approximately 96 percent ownership of Volvo Group of Nissan Diesel is because of the 294,585,705 shares that the former received after the acceptance period expired. It includes the 19 percent that Volvo already controlled even before the offer was made.

Volvos Chief Executive Officer Leif Johansson has this to say about the purchase of Nissan Diesel: It is pleasing that we received such a level of acceptance. We foresee major mutual benefits for the Volvo Group and Nissan Diesel with this transaction and it is highly satisfying that owners in Nissan Diesel share this view.

After acquiring more than two thirds of the company, the Volvo Group is now in the process of acquiring the rest of the company from other investors. Meanwhile, the Volvo Group is also planning to take Nissan Diesel out of the trading floor of the Tokyo Stock Exchange. The remaining stakes are expected to be bought by Volvo Group by the end of September this year.

With total acquisition of the company, Volvo will be closing the gap between them and the largest truck manufacturer in the world which is DaimlerChrysler. They will also be responsible for the production of Nissan Diesel parts like the Nissan exhaust manifolds and other special auto parts made just for Nissan vehicles.

The Volvo Group will be paying 7.4 billion Swedish kronor and is expected to make payments on or before the 29th of this month. The completion of the purchase will need the approval of anti-trust authorities based in the United States and in South Africa. The Volvo Group has already secured approval from the U.S. institution and authorities while approval from the South African units is expected to be given by the end of May this year.

The Volvo Group needs to wait for the approval from authorities in South Africa before they can take control of Nissan Diesel facilities in the country. Aside from those matters, the Volvo Group considers that the purchase of Nissan Diesel is already in the books.

Nissan Diesel will be a part of the Truck segment of the Volvo Group.

The Nissan Maxima offers a combination of performance, luxury and interior room at a very competitive price. This family sedan sits in the same class as the Volkswagen Passat and Mazdaspeed 6.

The Maxima badge has been around since 1982 and has always boasted the one of the best V6 power plants in the industry. The latest version continues this trend.

In the United States, the Big Three are experiencing financial problems due to reduced sales as Japanese brands had increased their stake in the U.S. auto market. These problems have resulted to a massive workforce reduction. Ford, General Motors and Chrysler also closed down plants and reduced working hours and production to recover from losses that they suffered.

But the U.S. Big Three are not the only car companies which have announced that they will be cutting down jobs. Nissan, the third largest Japanese car company, has recently announced that they will be implementing a voluntary retirement program which will reduce their workforce by as much as 1,500 blue and white collar jobs.

The said program will commence in June this year. It will be available for workers aged 45 years old or older and holding non-managerial positions. The said program is the effect of declining domestic sales for Nissan. In Japan, the sale of non-mini vehicles is experiencing a sharp decline as the demand decreases and the competition grows stronger.

Aside from the retirement program, Nissan will also be reducing their production in two of their assembly plants in Japan. This announcement came after the Japanese company announced that they will be opening new plants in Japan to meet the demand in the United States. Last September, the woes being faced by Nissan led to the closing down of one of the three lines at one of their facility in Southern Japan. In the United States, Nissan also resorted to offering early retirement program to recover from the losses it has incurred the past year.

Last year, Nissan suffered terrible losses and especially during the last quarter of 2006. During that period, the Japanese brand posted 22 percent reduction in terms of sales compared to 2005. It is only in recent months that Nissan appeared to be gaining popularity once again among American car buyers as their sales figure has been increasing month after month. This improvement on their sales in the United States may be the result of the turnaround plan being implemented by Nissan.

Currently, under the restructuring plan, Nissan aims to sell 4.2 million vehicles all over the world until the year 2009. The Nissan Green Program 2010 is the automakers vision of its commitments to all aspects of environmental management. The program is aimed at responding to immediate challenges and creating the foundation for a long-term, sustainable business model.

Nissan is among the top three Asian automakers of the Big Three in the United States. And to compete more closely to Detroits Big Three, Nissan is also focusing on the reduction of CO2 emissions. The automaker has embraced a multi-pronged philosophy of product development. Nissans philosophy covers the formulation and production of auto technologies and product lines to promote clean environment.

The automaker is meticulously planning in order to have the right auto technologies at the right time and market. The technologies will be used to help sustain cleaner environment with lesser harmful emissions.

At this years New York Auto Show, the automaker introduced an engine that incorporates the variable valve event and lift (VEL) system. The system is capable of limiting CO2 emissions by around ten percent. The VEL system is as efficient as the refined Nissan oxygen sensor. According to Nissan, the first vehicle to offer this technology in North America will be an Infiniti.

Nissan has also developed clean diesel engines for North America to achieve the United States Tier2 BIN5 emissions standards. By far, the automakers current gasoline engines are designed to run on a blend of up to ten percent bio-ethanol (E10). In 2005, Nissan has introduced the Titan FFV (E85). The threat of global warming and increasing prices of gasoline has affected the auto industry globally. Motorists once favoring bigger cars like sport utility vehicles and pickup trucks are now looking for smaller and more fuel efficient vehicles.

This demand for smaller vehicles has spurred the global auto industry to develop and produce more fuel efficient vehicles. In fact, a new breed of vehicles has been created solely for this demand - the crossover vehicles. Hybrid vehicles are also gaining a wide following in the auto market. In response to this, car manufacturers have stepped up their production of compact vehicles.

Nissan, the third largest Japanese car manufacturer, recently expressed their dedication to producing smaller cars by announcing that they will be increasing engine production at their Yokohama facility. The Asian brand announced that they will be allocating 6.4 billion yen by the end of 2007 in the said endeavor. It can be remembered that in 2006, the car manufacturer from the Orient has earmarked a sum of eleven billion yen as an investment in the expansion of their business both domestic and also abroad.

The allocated amount will be used to boost the engine production of the Nissan Yokohama plant. Currently, the engine can produce approximately 80,000 engines annually. With the investment, the facility is expected to produce 760,000 engines by the end of next year.

Aside from boosting the engine production, the allocated money will also be spent in developing a new generation of engines. Nissan aims to produce a new and cleaner engine since the demand for green cars have been steadily increasing in recent years. Currently, the Yokohama plant is producing engines used in different Nissan and Infiniti models. Minivans, sport utility vehicles, and smaller cars from Nissan and its luxury division are just some of the vehicles equipped with engines manufactured at the plant and these have been made so as to complement all other Nissan components like Nissan shocks.

The Nikkei, Japans leading business daily, reported that the planned increase in engine production is in connection with the increased automobile production overseas. In the United States, the demand for compact cars like the Nissan Versa has prompted the car manufacturer to increase production. The increased production of vehicles therefore needs engines and the investment in the Yokohama plant is expected to supply adequate engines.

Aside from the Versa, the Nissan Altima is also gaining ground in the U.S. auto market. The Altima remains as the top selling model of the Japanese brand. Hybrid vehicles are also being looked into as the future of fuel efficient vehicles and Nissan is one of the numerous car manufacturers to offer hybrid vehicles. Last month, the companys sales figures show the increased demand for smaller vehicles. For the month of March, strong sales of the Versa, Altima, and the Infiniti G sedan boost the car manufacturers March sales by 8 percent compared to sales output in March 2006.

Promotional partnerships with brands are expected to happen. The deal will have the Japanese automaker spending marketing dollars around the series through on-air and online sponsorships and traditional ads, wireless applications, as well as a Heroes musicvid and the season-one DVD release. It will also cover product integration, off-channel platforms, wireless applications, traditional television advertising and significant on-air and online sponsorships.

It is a common move for car manufacturers these days to produce smaller vehicles with a lower fuel consumption. This move is triggered by the increasing prices of gasoline.

The spikes on gas and prices has forced car buyers to turn away from bigger cars which more often than not consume a lot more fuel compared to smaller cars. One solution to the demand for fuel-efficient vehicles is the hybrid technology. Several car manufacturers are now employing the hybrid technology on their models. Toyota, Honda, and even Ford have all introduced a hybrid version for some of their popular models.

Toyota has a hybrid version of the Camry, Honda with the hybrid version of the Accord, and Ford with a hybrid SUV that is the Ford Escape Hybrid. While Asian brands are supposed to lead the way with hybrid technology, a prominent Asian car brand has stayed away from the hybrid bandwagon.

For years, Carlos Ghosn, the Chief Executive Officer of Nissan, has been put down the idea of using hybrid technology on their vehicles for they were deeming the technology as an impractical step. Recently, he announced that instead of focusing on hybrid technology, Nissan will be offering clean diesel engines in the U.S. auto market.

Ghosn, just like his counterparts in other car companies, is also looking for ways to meet the markets demand for fuel efficient vehicles. He and Nissan will also have to find a way to make their cars safer to the environment. The increased awareness of the global community about the threat of global warming has increased the demand for green or environment friendly vehicles. In this regard, Nissan has to come up with diesel engine technology which will significantly reduce greenhouse gas emission. After all, diesel engines are known to produce more greenhouse gases than gasoline engines.

Ghosn recently sat down with The Washington Posts reporters and editors. During the meeting, he stated that the problem currently being faced by the auto industry is in fact caused by its shortsightedness. The car industry... because it has been a little bit shortsighted, saying all the time that a change in fuel-efficiency standards is not possible, this is too expensive, this is not going to happen, put itself in a situation where everybody is focusing on the car industry, says Ghosn. The carbon dioxide emitted by a car looks more damaging than the carbon dioxide emitted by everybody else, he added further.

He also talked about the impact of tougher CAF or corporate average fuel economy. He said that if the government enacts tougher CAF standard for the auto industry, they should also do the same for other industries. If you take up CAFE for the car industry, just make sure that the other industries also have something similar, says Ghosn.

As far as the companys effort to reduce greenhouse gas emissions of their vehicles, Ghosn stated that they would be cooperating with their partner, Renault. Carlos Ghosn is also the President and the Chief Executive Officer of the French car brand.

In the past, the collaboration between the two companies has resulted in the development of high quality diesel engines and it would seem that the new generation of diesel engines that Nissan will be introducing to the United States will be even more fuel efficient and would produce lesser amount of greenhouse gas emissions.

For now, the public will have to wait what Nissan will be bringing to the table when it releases Nissan vehicles equipped with diesel engines. One thing is for sure though, diesel engines from Nissan pack a lot of torque which gives any vehicle a good acceleration. That would mean that if the diesel engines are designed to produce a lot of power, highly efficient brake components such as EBC rotors are needed to stop a vehicle equipped with Nissans diesel engine safely.

According to a study conducted by the suburban Detroit RDA Group market-research firm, the quality of Nissan Motors Co., Inc. is equal to the Ford Motor Co. and the Toyota Motors Corp. Ford and Toyota have already etched a trusted reputation in the global automotive industry for several decades now.

The study conducted for Ford revealed that the Honda Motor Co. turned out the best overall results. Still, 'Its a big improvement for us,' said Ford global quality Vice President Bennie Fowler. In the said study, RDA asked 31,000 new-vehicle owners to write down any problems they encountered in the first 90 days of ownership of their 2007-model cars and trucks from all major automakers.

Ford, Lincoln and Mercury brand vehicles had 1,456 problems per 1,000 vehicles, as compared with 1,457 for Nissan and 1,453 for Toyota, RDA said. Honda was found to be the best in new-car quality, with 1,313 'things gone wrong' per 1,000 vehicles, RDA noted. Fords quality improved 8 percent, compared with the overall industrys two percent improvement.

The Ford Fusion beat the Toyota Camry and the Honda Accord with 1,066 problems per 1,000 vehicles in the midsize-car segment. On the other hand, Mercury Milan scored 910 and that is the lowest score for any Ford product, RDA revealed.

The Nissan turn signal is flashing positive vibes. Lately, the Japanese automaker has been busy testing new strategies and coming up with fascinating innovations. At present, Nissan is testing a pedestrian-detecting system which is designed to warn drivers if someone is about to walk into the road.

The Intelligent Transportation System (ITS) is equipped with mobile phone technology and GPS (global positioning satellites) to send data to the car on the pedestrian's location. Nissan is currently concentrating on researching which type of data is most useful to prevent road accidents, including the direction of travel of the pedestrian relative to the vehicle, and corresponding speeds and distances. It is also studying whether to visual alerts or audible warnings. The most appropriate alerts are expected to be integrated to the car.

Nissan has also announced its partnership with the NEC Corporation to make latest-generation lithium-ion batteries. These batteries are believed to be more efficient and environment-friendly than some of the present power sources. They will be used to enable a new series of electric cars and hybrids.

The Japanese automaker is also planning to unveil a production fuel cell car and an electric vehicle early in the next decade. Nissan also intimated its plan to make its petrol and diesel engines ever-cleaner. These vehicles are expected to arrive by 2012. This is too difficult; a very, very high level, said the Nissan head of technology Mitsuhiko Yamashita. We will ultimately have to meet this, but 2012 is too aggressive. The timing is too tight, Yamashita noted.

There is no doubt both alliance partners Nissan and Renault are very significant players in the LCV market not only because it is booming in India, but also because both Nissan and Renault have an entire line up of products in that area, says Nissan-Renault Chief Executive Officer Carlos Ghosn. It can be remembered that Nissan has faced a troublesome year in 2006 when it was overtaken by Honda as the second largest Japanese car company.

The declining sale for Nissan is the result of scarcity of models in their lineup. This has awakened the Japanese car manufacturer to develop and produce new models for the coming years. The announcement that the Alliance will be expanding their presence in India is evidence that they are solving their scarcity of models.

While the Alliance is on the verge of entering the light commercial vehicle market in India, Ghosn maintained that it is still early to be absolutely sure that they would indeed enter the said market. Ghosn also announced that they are planning to team up with Indian car companies as they increase their presence in the country. Aside from engineering input from Indian partners, Nissan and Renault might also produce whole vehicles or particular parts like Nissan ball joints in factories in India.

The partnerships aim to increase their presence in India is a good step for Nissan which is just recovering from yet another blow it suffered last year. In the United States, sales for Nissan are rising steadily for the past months. The company though would like to see sales figures rise even more. In connection to that and the fact that their fewer choices affected their sales negatively, Nissan announced that they will be coming out with 33 new models in three years time starting next year.

The Nissan Altima is a great family car or simply a starter vehicle and in my opinion is very reliable, safe and somewhat luxury, depending on the trim you choose. I will start with the most basic trim of the Altima which is the 2.5. It is a very simple car with barely anything in it. It has a 2.5 liter, 4 cylinder engine, am/fm stereo and cloth upholstery.

No options are available on this trim, or in other words everything is standard and unchangeable. The next step up, the 2.5 S, has everything the 2.5 has plus a single disc CD player, air conditioning, power windows and door locks, remote entry, and also adds some options making not everything standard. Some of these options are in the Premium Convenience Package which adds a moon roof, a six-disc Bose CD system.

The 2.5 SL adds a standard moon roof, heated leather seats and replicated wood grain. Then comes the 3.5 SE which includes the following: dual chrome exhaust pipes, better higher, performance tires, seventeen inch alloys and fog lights.

While the lower quality trims have a standard four cylinder engine, anything from the 2.5 SL and up can have an upgraded six cylinder engine as an option for approximately $1000 more.

My recommended trim level for the Nissan Altima would have to be the 2.5 S as it is what I drive and I am very satisfied with it in my two years of driving it. Overall I have no complaints and think it is a great car for anybody who prefers Nissan's. At 119,000 miles it has only suffered from one break down which is great.

Nissan is going to send out a new vehicle at the 2007 North American International Auto Show and the company calls it the 2008 Nissan Rouge. The company also does claim that this new one is going to make the Honda CR-V run for shelter when it comes in. After all, according to Nissan, they named the vehicle the Rouge for it actually is meant to show its independence oriented positioning.

In the Nissan range, there are already four sport utilities in its range. However, the company chose to create a new one which would be having its own share of Nissan auto parts. The main difference that the Nissan Rouge would be having is that it has been designed to have taken a side towards sophistication compared to all other Nissan SUVs. In fact, Nissans general manager, Bill Bosley, explains, The Rogues utility is a little more stealthy. The Nissan Motor Co., Ltd. earlier unveiled a new engine technology that offers a balance between power, responsiveness, and fuel efficiency as well as low emissions. Nissans new engine valve system combines the technologies behind the newly developed Variable Valve Event and Lift (VVEL)*1 and continuous valve timing control (C-VTC) to produce dramatic improvement in the vehicles performance.

Nissans new engine valve technology is available to customers around the world through the Nissan and Infiniti product lines. The automaker has intimated its plan to install the new technology on its vehicles starting this year. The new system, under the Nissan Green Program 2010, contributes up to a ten percent reduction in carbon-dioxide emissions.

The Infiniti G37 coupe is the very first to offer the VVEL technology. The said coupe debuted at the recently held New York International Auto Show (NYIAS). Traditional engines control air intake using a throttle valve is a part of the whole vehicle. The VVEL-equipped engines, on the other hand, control air intake directly at the valves. Moreover, it continuously controls valve events and lifts to boost the performance of the vehicle. Both the VVEL and the C-VTC control the valve phases, valve events and lifts to ensure efficiency. This is to allow free-control of the valve timing and lift. The new system is further bolstered by the equally efficient Nissan radiator.

The result of such a remarkable system is the more efficient airflow through the cylinder. It also significantly enhances responsiveness as well as optimizes the balance between environmental performance and power.

Specifically, the new engine from the Japanese automaker offers higher fuel efficiency. At low-to-mid load ranges, Nissans new system controls air intake at the intake-valve, immediately before it enters the combustion chamber. This is in contrary with the traditional engine air intake via a throttle valve. As a result, efficiency is achieved by easing airflow through the cylinder. To decrease camshaft friction and advance fuel efficiency, intake-valve lift is kept low in the low- and medium-rpm ranges.

Another advantage of the new system is cleaner emissions. The intake-valve timing is optimized on startup. When the engine is still cool, the timing quickly increases the temperature of exhaust gases and swiftly activates the catalytic converter.

Additionally, hydro-carbon emissions are decreased in the low-to-medium range by keeping intake-valve lift low, accelerating intake flow, and diffusing the fuel into a finer mist. This process results in more efficient full combustion.

Nissans VVEL enhances fuel efficiency in the low-to-medium operating range, thus it is best complemented by the multiple-cylinder and higher displacement engines. These engines usually operate within that range. Under the Nissan Green Program 2010, the automaker has announced plans to develop gasoline-powered engines with CO2 emissions slashed to levels analogous with diesel engines. These engines are expected to be available worldwide by 2010.

With powerful engines, a better response, cleaner emissions and advanced functions, Nissans new system is expected to create a warm access in the auto world.

At the 2006 Tokyo Motor show, Nissan unveiled the concept version of the supercar Nissan GT-R. During the said event, the Japanese car manufacturer announced that the production version of the GT-R will be made available by the end of this year as a 2008 model year car. While the United States auto market will surely be graced by the presence of the GT-R, the Australian sector is still waiting whether the supercar will be released in the country or not.

Recent news from Nissan reported that the GT-R will be officially launched at this years Tokyo Motor Show. During the said event, the third largest Japanese car manufacturer will announce whether the GT-R will be released in the Land Down Under or not. Nissan Australia general manager Ross Booth said that he is hoping that the supercar will be released in the Australian auto market.

I still have my hands up for the GT-R, says Booth. Hopefully, in the next few months we will get to know and put together a case where we can get the vehicle. I think it would be very good for our brand in Australia, he added further.

Aside from the GT-R, the Australian auto market is also expecting to receive the entry of the new Nissan X-Trail, Micra, and the Dualis which is known also as the Nissan QASHQAI. There will be a lot of interest in Australia for the GT-R, but it won't detract from the local launches, Booth says regarding the entry of the auto models in Australia. There is so much demand for information about the GT-R that what I'd like to do, if we are going to bring it in, is give an indication of at least when, he added.

The concept of the GT-R is dubbed as the GT-R Proto and is the direct descendant of the Nissan Skyline GT-R which has captured the attention of performance enthusiasts. The GT-R though will be a separate nameplate and its body style is unique compared to other Nissan vehicles. Its Nissan hood resembles that of a Bugatti Veyron which only makes the GT-R a sight to look at according to some performance car fans.

The specifications for the production GT-R is yet to be announced by Nissan although there are words going around the auto industry concerning the powerplant of the supercar. It seems that Nissan will be equipping the GT-R with a 3.8-liter twin-turbo V6 engine with transmission choice between a six-speed manual and an automatic transmission. The estimated power of the engine is 482 horsepower and a track version which will have the capacity to produce 530 horsepower.

With the sheer power and good-looks of the Nissan GT-R, Booth is concerned of the price tag which will come with the GT-R. We need to be a little careful of the Nissan brand with the fact that you don't want to be selling cars at $200,000-plus, said Booth. I don't think the GT-R will be up there, but the reality is that we haven't got confirmation that we're going to get it and we don't know what the price or specifications will be, he added.

The Nissan Motor Co., Ltd. unveiled a Skyline Coupe to be released in Japan in autumn this year at an event held on April 24, 2007 commemorating the 50th anniversary of the Skyline. A right drive version was unveiled for the first time at this event, while the left hand drive version of this model was previously exhibited as the Infiniti G37 Coupe at the New York Motor Show just this April, 2007.

The Nissan Skyline celebrated its 50th anniversary yesterday in regal style at an event held at Tokyos new Midtown development. The Skyline, a mid-size car, is available as either in a coup or a sedan body style. Reckoning back to 1957, the Skyline is a legendary car in the Nissan lineup. It comes with a long heritage of performance and style that captured the motoring fans around the globe.

Taking this opportunity, Nissan also showed the all-new Skyline Coupe in the said event, making its first appearance in Japan. The new Skyline Coupe is scheduled for release in Japan this fall.

Chief engineers for the product development of each generation Skyline, including Shinichiro Sakurai, the chief development engineer of the first Skyline model, were present in the celebration. The event featured a film presentation that mirrored the evolution of the Skyline design, performance and image throughout the various milieus of each generation Skyline.

Additionally, a fashion show titled the Skyline GT Collection commemorative of the anniversary was held in, featuring twelve of todays most popular fashion models, including Yoko Horiuchi. The models were dressed in specifically designed outfits, inspired by each generation of the Skyline.

Celebrity guests include musician Joe Hisaishi, actor Ken Watanabe, while major league baseball player Ichiro sent his congratulations via a video message. Each of these celebrities share in a common trait with the Skyline i.e. that they were born in Japan but have since gained fame and recognition in the global arena. Hisaishis latest composition, I Will Be, written for the Skylines new TV commercial, was performed for the first time by Mai Hisaishi, who is also featured on the commercial.

The Skyline 50th Anniversary exhibition, featuring each generation Skyline model, is open to the public at Tokyo Midtown Garden until the 6th of May. Also, all-new Skyline Coupe and the Skyline GT Collection fashion line will be displayed at the Midtown Atrium from Wednesday, April 25th through Sunday, May 6th - Nissan.

The current Skyline, equipped with remarkable Nissan accessories and quality auto parts, is sold in North America, South Korea, Taiwan, and the Middle East as the Infiniti G35. Details are not given by the company, but the car, which is basically similar as the G37 Coupe, seems to be mounted with a 3.7L V6 engine VQ37VHR that is equipped with a variable valve timing/lift mechanism.

The front view of the car shows that the emblem on the grill of the American version is Infiniti, while that of domestic version is Nissan. Front fenders of the domestic version feature side marker lamps, which are not found on the American version. The rear view flaunts that the domestic version has the emblem of Nissan and letters below the emblem have been changed from Infiniti to Skyline. Additionally, the emblem of model name for the American version is the G37, while that of domestic version is the 370GT.

The Nissan Motor Co. Chief Executive Officer Carlos Ghosn, who rescued the automaker from near bankruptcy seven years ago, said that his credibility is on the line after missing last year's earnings goals.

According to the average of 16 analyst estimates compiled by Bloomberg, Nissans profit probably plunged 33 percent in the three months ended March 31. Earnings in the year-ago period were bolstered by a 17 billion yen one-time gain from selling the Nissan Diesel Motor Co. shares to Volvo AB. Sales probably increased 31 percent to a record 3.46 trillion yen, the survey said.

In February, the Japanese automaker slashed its net income estimate for the year ended last March to 460 billion yen ($3.9 billion) from 523 billion yen. It was the first time the automaker missed its target. Additionally, the automaker may miss a 3.73 million-vehicle global sales forecast for the year.

It's important to maintain credibility,'' said Ghosn in an interview on Feb. 2. We have made forecasts and we have met them in the past. We missed it this time and we don't like it.'' Ghosn, 53, intends to regain investors' confidence when he unveils the carmaker's earnings tomorrow. In the said announcement, he also will tackle what he called a crisis'' at Tokyo-based Nissan. The company in February scaled back its full-year profit forecast by 12 percent and said it may not meet its target of selling 4.2 million vehicles in the year ending March 2009.

He took his eyes off the ball,'' said Edwin Merner, who oversees $1 billion as the president of Atlantis Investment Research Corp. in Tokyo. Sales in the U.S. have been disappointing until recently and in Japan sales are in a shambles.''

The shares of the Japanese automaker declined by 2.7 percent to 1,195 yen as of 12:32 p.m. in Tokyo, extending the fall for 2007 to 17 percent. Shares of the Toyota Motor Corp. dropped by two percent to 7,220 yen and the Honda Motor Co. shares dived by 1.7 percent to 4,000 yen. The shares fell after the confidence of purchasers plunged in the United States. Japanese automakers derive as much as 70 percent of their operating profit in the country.

From April, Ghosn gave up daily oversight of North American operations. The change is giving Ghosn, who is managing both Nissan and Renault SA, more time to concentrate on improving the performance of the two automakers. Renault owns 44.3 percent of Nissan. Ghosn is set to announce a plan today to boost the Nissan's earnings. Nissan said it will offer incentives to workers in Japan to save costs, the first time in eight years it has offered early retirements. Meanwhile, Nissan spokeswoman Pauline Kee declined to comment on the analysts' estimates or on Ghosn's plan.

Nissan is betting on 11 new or redesigned vehicles. The said product lines, equipped with sophisticated auto parts like Nissan air mass meter, engines, brakes, and rotors, will be introduced worldwide in the year starting April 1, including the Rogue crossover vehicle as Ghosn said last month.

It can be recalled that the automaker unveiled only one new model globally in the first half ended on Sept. 30. Ghosn has said the automaker must improve its planning to bring out new models on a more regular basis. If we don't learn from the mistakes we've made, we will make more mistakes,'' Ghosn said. Nissan will probably focus on cutting costs in purchasing, making better use of production capacity and strengthening sales and marketing efforts, especially in Japan and the U.S., said analysts including Koji Endo at Credit Suisse Group in Tokyo.

In the year ended March 31, Nissan gained from the weaker yen'', said Koichi Takatsuka, who oversees $1 billion at UAM Japan Inc. in Tokyo. In February, the automaker based its earnings forecasts on an exchange rate of 120 yen to the dollar and 150 yen to the euro for the three months ended in March.

Nissan will report earnings at 3:20 p.m. today. Honda reported at 3 p.m. yesterday, followed by Toyota at 3 p.m. on May 9.

The Nissan North America Inc. said that 775 workers at its vehicle and engine plants in Tennessee, which equates to around 12 percent of the factories' combined payroll, had accepted a company buyout plan. Initially, Parent Nissan Motor Co. only expected about 300 of the 6,200 factory workers to take the buyouts but the real numbers astounded the automaker.

Nissan said that 681 employees at its plant in Smyrna and 94 employees at Decherd decided to take advantage of the offers. Retirements accounted for 303 of the combined number. Employees were offered a $45,000 lump-sum payment plus $500 for each year of service to walk away from their jobs. The buyout offers were not made available to employees at other Nissan manufacturing locations in North America.

The automaker is currently in the process of swiftly cutting costs to concentrate more on some production concerns. The cost cutting goal resulted to the relocation of its North American headquarters and 1,300 jobs from Gardena to Nashville in the previous year. The Japanese automaker said it offered the buyouts because of higher demand for passenger cars combined with lower demand for trucks and sport utility vehicles.

This program has resulted in tangible benefits for employees and the company, said Dan Gaudette, the senior vice president of Nissan North American Manufacturing and Supply Chain Management. The automakers Smyrna facility, which is located 25 miles southeast of Nashville, is its principal North American assembly plant. It holds a total of 5,200 employees. The engine plant in Decherd, with 1,000 workers, is about 95 miles southeast of Nashville.

The Smyrna plant manufactures Nissan Altima, Maxima passenger cars, Nissan Frontier pickups and Nissan Xterra and Pathfinder SUVs. The plant is responsible for the assembly of auto parts like the Nissan EGR valve and ensures their quality. The Decherd facility, on the other hand, manufactures engines for Nissan and Infiniti vehicles built in the United States.

The Nissan Motor Co., Ltd. is planning to launch 30 new models through March 2008, the Associated Press reported. This move is anchored on the goal to compete closely with other automakers.

To ensure quality, the third largest Japanese automaker has built the $42 million Global Production Engineering Center in Zama city. We are about to go on a major offensive, said Senior Vice President Toshiharu Sakai.

The facility is meant to prevent problems of new models such as when a digital design looks right but turns out inappropriate. The purpose of the center is to safeguard quality regardless of where the vehicles are manufactured - whether in India, Russia or in the United States.

Nissan, which runs 26 vehicle plants around the world, has been producing more cars outside its home since 2003. The automaker has acknowledged that quality has sometimes suffered in recent years abroad, especially its new U.S. plant in Canton, Miss.

Like any other auto plant, assembly lines at GPEC are busy working on Nissan header pipe, body parts, accessories, and other auto equipment. The only difference is that the robots are there for testing purposes only. The new facility, which was earlier shown to reporters, is part of the automakers efforts to formulate potent kinks in production for the 30 new model launches.

The 30 new models are crucial to the automakers aim to overturn its depleting sales. The GPEC will also be applied to all future global undertaking of the Japanese automaker. In the past, things have gone wrong in production, such as when a design for an auto part that looked right in its digital design stages turned out not to fit properly. The testing center is meant to prevent such problems.

Testing production in advance on mock assembly lines might help fine-tune production and improve product quality, said Shozo Takata, a science and engineering professor at Waseda University. It could serve the purpose of separating problems at the design stage from problems at the production stage, he said in a telephone interview. That tends to be meaningful.

Sakai and other Nissan officials are determined to grab hold of potential glitches early in time to avoid further trouble. With 30 models going into production worldwide in twelve months, production for three or more models needs to be tested a month - quite a challenge for the center, Sakai said.

When problems are found, they are corrected at once. The new production schemes go to the plants, usually as digital data. The center also carries out test-drives in a room, where bumpy roads are simulated and temperatures are adjusted from freezing to tropical hot.

William Schwartz, the executive vice president of TBM Consulting Group, which advises companies on production methods, said that other Japanese automakers, including the Toyota Motor Corp. and the Honda Motor Co., test out production methods for experimentation and changes before full-scale production. The goal of production preparation is to create the best method with the least amount of waste, Schwartz said in an e-mail. Worker productivity is improved regardless of the country or culture.

Nissan Executive Vice President Hidetoshi Imazu said that the center helps cut the time for development and production preparation. It is important that Nissan maintains the high levels of quality that our customers expect, he said.

In one demonstration, a cockpit of a car, which includes the glove compartment, steering wheel, and other front interior parts, was positioned into the frame of a vehicle, to make sure it fit suitably.

The North American market has seen some bold changes by Nissan over the years. Originally imported under the Datsun name, Nissan cars in Canada and the US made the switch over to the new name in the early 1980s and the company hasnt been the same since. A broader line up and the introduction of the luxurious Infiniti brand in the late 1980s changed the face of Nissan tremendously. The winners are consumers everywhere who can get a great vehicle for a fair price.

It was in 1965 when the first Datsuns arrived in Canada. Who could forget the 1600cc 510 wagon with a 4 speed manual transmission? The only thing that could kill this car was rust and a rust bucket it was at that. Or, how about the 620 pick up? A great little hauler that is in a league of its own. My personal favorite was the 720 pick up truck equipped with a diesel engine. A good, sturdy truck that really sipped fuel.

Todays Nissan line up is a far cry from the cars that dotted the landscape during the 1960s, 1970s, and 1980s. For consumers that is probably a good thing too. Todays line up still offers glimpses of the original Datsuns with the Sentra reminding some of the old B210, but about ten times more comfortable at that too. The Altima, Maxima, and the revived 350Z round out the car line up and when you add in all the SUVs and trucks that Nissan now sells the Japanese automaker has something for everyone.

Consumers are maintaining their Nissans/Datsuns with premium Nissan parts and accessories. Your dealer will have what you need, but remember the prices you pay for parts through the dealership will be the prevailing retail rate. Some national auto parts chains will have a decent selection, but they may have difficulty hunting down the rare Datsun or early Nissan part for you.

A new choice for consumers is auto parts wholesalers, particularly those who sell online. Prices are usually much lower because wholesalers buy direct from leading manufacturers including Bosch, K&N, Hella, Monroe, Covercraft, and others. Still, make sure that the retailer is based in Canada and not charging you outrageous shipping and duty charges for parts shipped in from the US or elsewhere. The selection they offer to you should be great, parts stocked must meet or exceed OEM requirements, and customer service should be just a click of the mouse and/or a toll free phone number away.

Be careful of retailers specializing in generic Nissan parts as counterfeit auto parts are a big problem in North America. Always learn in advance what the company's shipping, return, and warranty policies are before making your purchase.

Automakers are clamoring to build and market cars to the Generation Y crowd which, loosely defined, and encompasses new drivers and mostly everyone who is under 30. Toyota threw the gauntlet down in 2003 when they introduced a line of cars under the Scion brand. Now, Nissan is responding and the Versa to be released during the summer of 2006 is their answer. Will the Versa compete successfully or be lost in a sea of Gen Y vehicles soon to flood the market? All of that is too early to determine, so lets take a look at the Versa and what the car has to offer to motorists.

A visit to Nissans website reveals much about the Versa. Unlike a certain Scion vehicle that takes its styling cues from a toaster, the Versa is aerodynamic and reminds me of the Toyota Matrix. Available as a four door sedan or five door hatchback, the Versa is expected to retail for around $12,000, the same price range as Scion vehicles. Like Scion, the Versa will be fairly well equipped to give motorists a value packed experience without having to add on several thousands more to the base sticker price in order to achieve a satisfactory and comfortable driving experience.

Along with a 1.8L I4 engine, here is what you can expect to be included with base models:

Not a bad standard equipment list for the price. For $2,000 more, SL versions will come with aluminum alloy wheels, cruise control, power windows/doors/locks, remote keyless entry, a souped up sound system, and more.

The car will have a 102 inch wheel base which is long for a vehicle of its type. The result is more interior room, with four adults having ample knee and leg room to weather long trips.

Pictures of the interior reveal a car that is well though out and not cheap looking. I especially like the dashboard with its overlapping circular instrument panel and easy to reach audio and air conditioning controls. A generation ago, entry level cars would have looked and felt cheap. Todays drivers expect more and the Versa delivers in the form of a decent level of standard equipment and attention to style.

The Versa replaces the Sentra as the entry level Nissan. Nissan has restyled the Sentra and promoted it up a notch much like Honda has done with the Civic and Toyota with the Corolla.

Although more expensive than Chevys Aveo and Kias Rio, the car has more flair and style than either one. Still, one has to wonder how the Versa will compete against Toyotas soon to be released Yaris and the all new Honda Fit. Throw in new models expected from Dodge and Ford and add Chinese cars to the mix and the whole entry level market becomes saturated.

Ultimately, the Versa is a step in the right direction and a nice alternative to some of its boxy competitors. Gen Y drivers have another choice in the Versa and an alternative to Scion, Toyotas youth-oriented brand.

Nissan Motors earlier announced the signing of a Collaboration Protocol between the Autonomous Government of Castilla y Len in Spain, the Avila City Council and Nissan Motor Iberica to develop an infrastructure network in the territory. The said network is aimed at improving competitiveness of the automakers light commercial vehicle production.

According to the Protocol, the Autonomous Government of Castilla y Len will develop the local logistics infrastructure and services that will facilitate Avilas role as a major industrial player in the region. The Avila City Council will also provide a minimum of 11 hectares of land to accommodate the infrastructures. The automakers part is to provide the necessary technical support. As stated, Nissan will benefit from these services and infrastructure when completed.

The infrastructure network include a parking and storage lot for a minimum of 1,650 trucks and containers; a supplier park with plants for a minimum of 8,500 square meters; a dedicated customs zone to maximize the speed of logistic procedures from Avila to the global market; and a railway-road hub for the interchange of trucks and train transportation of parts and vehicles.

The logistics and service hub will improve Avila plants ability to receive and integrate parts from leading cost competitive countries as well as to send KD parts to other Nissan plants. With the collaboration of Nissan and the local authorities we are creating the conditions to enhance the cost structure of our plant, and improve the efficiency of the whole supplier-plant value chain, said Jos Vicente De Los Mozos, the Vice President of the Nissan Spanish Industrial Operations.

The automaker will invest 1.6 million euros to build a 1,500 meter track as a dedicated LCV proving ground within the Avila plant. The proving ground will be used by the automaker in conducting painstaking product test-drives to be conducted onsite to improve the quality of its products at the same time support the development of forthcoming Nissan vehicles. Auto parts like Nissan ball joints, axle assembly and body kits will also be tested in the proving ground.

As announced in the Nissan Green Program 2010, the company is undertaking a wide range of environmental initiatives in CO2 reduction and promotes energy conservation through wider use of renewable energy resources. As such, the Avila plant will be equipped with the largest solar panel structure in Spain for industrial use. The total surface of the solar panels will sum to 1,335 square meters and will generate 608,000 Kwh annually. This will trim down 267 tons of CO2 emissions each year.

We want the Avila plant to be the best Nissan light duty truck production site in the world. The improvements we are announcing today represent an investment on the future of Nissans LCV business, and the commitment of the Avila plant for an ever improving competitiveness, noted De Los Mozos.

Nissan has unveiled their Bevel Concept at the recent 2007 North American International Auto Show in Detroit. The Bevel Concept is not conventional vehicle and you can easily tell by its door and window layout. It is a four-door vehicle which includes an extra long door located on the drivers side, a rear hatch, and an expansive twin doors on the passenger side, and rear suicide style opening.

The back hatch with its picture window size glass is built-in into the roof to create a cavernous opening. The hatch providing a full-six feet tailgate style work bench that extends outward and have a height of approximately two inches off the ground. Nissan said that the tailgate style work bench is strong enough to sit or stand on.

The Bevel concept has a wheelbase that measures four inches longer than the Murano crossover which is another vehicle in Nissans lineup and was presented last year at the Goodwood Festival of Speed. The Bevel has also relatively short overhangs with a surprisingly small overall footprint that is just 173.2 inches from nose to tail. To make up for the things that it lacks, the Bevel is provided with a bigger interior space.

With its seats up the cabin is divided into three distinct zones. The driver is provided with a futuristic looking bucket that can pass for a home in a remake of the Jetsons. Another great feature of the Bevel Concept is its seats can be folded flat to accommodate additional loads, luggage or cargoes.

The Bevel is loaded with lots of electronic gadgets ranging from its glass roof-mounted solar panels to its drive-by-wire steering, throttle, and braking. Its 20-inch wheels that features rubber inserts on the outer spoke edges enhance the Bevels aesthetic appeal while at the same time protects against curb damage.

There is nothing conventional with the Bevel Concept its asymmetric glass roof with its distinctive puck-shaped tie downs up to its yoke style steering wheel screams exclusivity. And thats not all! Both headlights & tail lights are hidden same with its rear LCD lamps that are concealed under the paint job. Car gadget lovers will definitely have fun with the not so ordinary door handles that the Bevel Concept is equipped withthis car is provided with touch-sensitive release keypads.

According to Bruce Campbell, Vice President of Design at Nissan Design America and the automakers styling connoisseur in La Jolla, California, Our goal in designing the Bevel exterior was to maximize functionality and minimize the use of visual distractions such as door handles, big exhaust pipes, or splashy lighting. At the same time, we wanted the little details to reflect Bevel's utility theme, which is why there is a recurring use of hexagons in the vehicle's design - reminiscent of a socket or a tool - in the wheels, grille, and even the disc brake venting.

The Bevel Concept is not yet due for production but some of its design cues and technical features may just make it to production.--Hopefully.

The Nissan Motor Co., Ltd. said last Tuesday that it aims to cut 1,500 jobs through an early retirement program in a move aimed at shoring up drooping earnings.

The early retirement program of the third biggest Japanese automaker will be extended to some 12,000 employees in Japan and the impact on earnings will be announced this Thursday, said the company spokesman Simon Sproule. It is one of the measures we have taken recently to help boost performance, added Sproule. It's about making sure structurally we're right sized.

The program follows a similar retirement program in the United States earlier this year that had targeted 300 job cuts but ended with about 775 workers accepting. Nissan slashed its profit forecast 12 percent for the fiscal year through March after seeing a 22 percent drop in earnings in the last quarter of 2006.

The backtracking strained President Carlos Ghosn to declare his company in a performance crisis. Ghosn was once credited for saving the automaker which then near bankruptcy. In another blow, Nissan said earlier this year it may miss its target of selling 4.2 million vehicles globally in the fiscal year ending March 2009 as part of a three-year restructure plan.

The Japanese automaker will accept applications for early retirement between June 1 and March 2008. The program will be offered to full-time employees over 45 years of age with at least five years of service to the company. In a statement, the automaker said the program was designed to alance staffing levels with assembly requirements.

However, the weak performance of Nissans product lines was blamed on a dearth of new models in North America and sluggish sales in Japan. Moreover, experts in the industry predict it would take a longer time for Nissan to meet its target.

Tokyo-based Nissan, which previously marketed its product lines under the Datsun name, also intends to move its headquarters to Yokohama, Kanagawa. According to the company, the construction of the new facility will start this year. Nissans new facility will be ready by 2010.

Nissan is included in the top three Asian rivals of Detroits Big Three. It became even stronger in 1999 when it entered an alliance with France-based Renault S.A. The Japanese automaker is famed for its creation of Nissan Xterra parts and VQ engine units.

The Nissan VQ engines of the company have been featured among Ward's 10 Best Engines for 12 straight years, since the award started. The new generation VQ will be featured on the new Infiniti G35, the future GT-R and the 2007 Nissan 350Z.

The automaker will also unleash the new generation 2.5VQ 4-cylinder engine that will power the next generation Altima and likely will power the forthcoming SPEC-V 2007 Sentra.

The San Diego-based Strategic Vision auto consultancy announced that Koreas Hyundai Motors and Japans Nissan Motor Corp. topped the firms latest Total Quality Index (TQI). Both automakers grabbed top honors in three of the 19 vehicle segments.

Hyundai had a total of five leaders (including sibling Kia, which yielded two), the Ford Motor Co. and the BMW Group each earned three (one for BMW, two for Mini); and General Motors Corp., the Honda Motors Co., and Mercedes each earned two, with Dodge, Lexus and Volkswagen each earning one. BMW repeated as the top-scoring brand, the eighth time in nine years, and Volkswagen of America kept its claim as the best full-line corporation.

The annual Index, now on its 12th year, is based on surveys taken from 27,000 respondents who purchased 2007 model year vehicles last fall. The Consultancy ranks brands based on surveyed consumers' experience in buying, owning and driving their new cars and trucks. Alexander Edwards, Strategic Vision's president, said that while the index takes technical or mechanical problems into account, the company uses qualitative questions on design, style, fit and finish to generate its index.

It's about 'what does the vehicle make me feel? Can I trust it?' said Edwards. The feel of seat material, level of illumination in gauges, right type of interior trim can translate - in consumers' minds - to how well [an automaker has designed the engine; it means 'they have taken time on things I can't see.' That is an emotional level of quality, and it is very important, he added.

The index reported that, although Toyota improved overall and was among the best brands in terms of problems per vehicle, the brand had no leaders in any of the segments. In terms of problems-per-vehicle, Toyota is on par with Honda, Hyundai, Infiniti and domestic brands such as Ford. Strategic Vision says that the Ford Expedition EL has a large lead and the fewest problems in its segment.

The Hyundai Entourage, Kia Sedona and the Nissan Quest have all replaced five-time leader Honda Odyssey. In addition, Hyundai and Nissan lead with the Azera and the Maxima, respectively. The Azera was the top large car, and the Maxima tied with Saturn's Aura in the medium-car category. Styling, performance and auto parts have greatly contributed to the automakers appeal. Over the past five years, Hyundai has had a vehicle leading its segment now and then, but never before have they taken three - five if you include Kia - especially in a market where the competition is so fierce, added Edwards. Edwards noted the surveys showed Nissan has corrected a disparity in its vehicles between great exteriors and less-great interiors. They are benefiting from improvements they've made on interior design, fit and finish. Nissan got that right this year.

In compact SUVs, Hyundai's Santa Fe was the leader, while Nissan's Titan and Ford's F-150 topped full-sized pickup contenders. Honda's Civic ranked highest among small cars in the index. Edwards said Civic's continued strength is remarkable, given much more intense competition in the small-car segment with Hyundai's Accent, Toyota's Yaris, and Nissan's Versa as well as Honda's own Fit. Hyundai still struggles with Accent; the car was redesigned recently, and yet it was at the bottom of the total quality list.

Additionally, it was divulged that the Mercedes S-Class was the top luxury car in the survey, with the BMW 3-Series the top near luxury car. The Mini Cooper, meanwhile, was the top small specialty car for under $25,000.

Protecting a pedestrian from severe injuries or even death as a result of being hit by a car is an issue being addressed by the Japanese car manufacturer Nissan. Currently, the only safety features integrated into vehicles aimed at pedestrian safety are bumpers which are specially designed to absorb energy and would then lessen the impact when a vehicle comes in contact with a pedestrian. Recently, Nissan announced that they are developing a pedestrian safety feature which would be based on cellular communications. Car manufacturers in recent years have become more environment friendly than they were before. This is because of the growing awareness in the global community which urges every sector to contribute to the protection of the environment. That is why clean cars have been developed to reduce the damage they caused to the environment.

Aside from developing these so-called green cars, car companies such as the Nissan Motor Company are looking for other ways to help the environment. In the case of the Japanese car manufacturer, they have created the Nissan Green Program 2010 which includes the steps that they are going to take to help the environment. The said program involves the production of fuel-efficient cars such as a three-liter car or a car that can run for a hundred kilometers on only three liters of gasoline. Aside from steps such as that, the program also includes the recycling of used cars.

Recently, the third largest Japanese car manufacturer disclosed information to the public of their progress in vehicle recycling. While the Nissan Green Program sets objectives to be accomplished by the year 2010, the company announced that they have already met one of their goals as early as the current year 2007. This is in the recycling of used cars. The recycling effort exerted by Nissan is in connection with the Japan Automobile Recycling Law which was enacted on January 1, 2005. The report made public by Nissan covered three different aspects of vehicle recycling. These three aspects are in the recycling of ASRs or Automobile Shredder Residues; airbag-related components; and fluorocarbons.

In the Nissan Green Program 2010, it is the companys goal to recycle 95 percent of the used vehicles by the year 2010. The company is ahead of the legislation in Japan which will enforce the 85 percent recovery rate of used cars in terms of recycling by the year 2015. This shows how the company is concerned about the state of the environment. For the past year, Nissan reported that they have recycled 95,240.3 tons from 128,827.9 tons of ASR recovered. That amount of ASR is the product of shredding 635,440 vehicles. The figures show a recovery rate of 73.9 percent and that is higher than the 70 percent enforced by the law. In fact, this means that the company is already meeting government standards nine years before it will be enforced.

Meanwhile, the effective recycling recovery rate that Nissan reported is at 95.2 percent. This is a bit higher than the 95 percent that they have set to accomplish by the year 2010. Four years before the deadline, Nissan has already achieved one of their goals and it is a matter of refining the technologies they use to bring the effective recycling recovery rate to higher levels. This means that the residues from shredding various auto components such as Nissan fenders, hood, door panels, and other metallic and plastic parts are used by Nissan on new cars eliminating the need to deplete natural resources to create new components. Aside from these auto parts shredded, ASR also includes potentially harmful substances such as lead, cadmium and PCBs or Polychlorinated biphenyls. The proper recovery, handling and possible recycling of these substances is of utmost importance to protect the environment.

In terms of recycling airbag related components, Nissan reported that they have received 439,526 airbag related components from 229,048 vehicles. The recovery of these components involves the use of ELV or End of Life Vehicle recovery process as well as on-board deployment. The company reported that their recycling ratio for airbag related components reached a high of 94.3 percent. This means that they have far exceeded the 85 percent that they have set in the Nissan Green Program 2010.

As far as taking care of the fluorocarbons which are commonly found on the air conditioning unit of their vehicles is concerned, Nissan reported that they have collected 160,200 kilograms of fluorocarbons from 507,037 vehicles. These are then processed properly to ensure that it will not harm the environment.

All these recycling and recovery efforts cost Nissan 5,523,193,204 yen. While this may seem to be a big loss for the company, it is actually lower than the income generated which Nissan reported to be 5,642,113,359 yen. That means that the company is left with a net surplus of 118,920,115 yen.

With the current achievements by the car company, they have already exceeded the set standards by the government with time to spare. The company reported that they will continue their advances in recycling to reach 100 percent recycling. This means that 100 percent of the recovered ASR, airbag related components and fluorocarbons are utilized on new products. The Japanese car manufacturer also announced that they will be developing new technologies which will enable them to use recycled materials from End of Life Vehicles to new vehicles. The company is also aiming to make zero-landfill a possibility in Japan. The company will also be looking for ways to develop engineering steps to make vehicles easy to disassemble making easier to recycle them. This should be done in a way that the vehicle remains safe for everyday driving and especially safe from car thieves who are preying on any cars by stripping off various components.

With the increase in popularity of green cars such as gasoline-hybrid, plug-in and fully electric, and fuel cell vehicles, Nissan will be developing technologies to recycle these types of vehicles efficiently and effectively.

The Janadriyah Festival delivers the richly hued cultural carpet of the territory. It is the countrys finest festival that flaunts Saudi Arabias captivating heritage - from distinct poetry, folk dances, luscious foods and camel races. The popular festival is now spiced up with Nissans heritage.

Among the many activities and attractions of the Janadriyah Festival, the automaker was allowed to display its product lines that range from high-performing pickups to riveting SUVs. Nissan offered its vehicles for test drives on the festivals track, which was especially designed for that purpose.

Nissans heritage could be felt in Janadriya's halls, outdoor activities and even in the camel race track. The upgrades and enhancements made include the addition of the new Titan Long Wheelbase King Cab and Crew Cab models. The new Pathfinder is also given the new 5.6-liter V8 engine. For Armada, the automaker gave it new exterior and interior designs. The powerful trio of the Nissan is set to be delivered this spring.

The 2008 Nissan Titan is built on the reputation of its predecessors. The pickup is designed for either work or driving adventure. For even greater performance, the SE-R is tuned to further push the envelope to 260 horsepower at 251 pounds/feet of torque. In our testing, the Altima performed well with excellent handling and acceleration with the 2.5 inline four. The new transmission (DVT) is extremely quiet and enhances driving is the optimum position. The downside was the slightly noisy cabin; the Altima lacks the superb sound isolation found inside the 2007 Toyota Camry. However, the new suspension, and wider tires give the car a stiffer ride with a more robust feel. For buyers seeking a quieter, softer ride consider the Camry. For buyers desiring a louder, sporty car with awesome handling, consider the 2007 Nissan Altima.

When the Altima was first introduced in 1993, it was available in two trims, and came with the choice of one 150 horsepower engine. Today, it is available in six trims and four engines including the Hybrid. The vehicle used is heavily upgraded to pave way to a powerful performance Z variant. The Nissan 350Z is a coup and roadster and was introduced in August 2002. By far, it is the fifth generation of the automakers Z-car line, carrying the chassis designation Z33. In Japan, the model is named Fairlady Z. The 350Z is Nissan's first sports car in North America since the 1998 discontinuation of fourth-generation Z-car.

The Nissan North America has started the construction of its new corporate facility which is located 20 miles south of downtown Nashville in Franklin, Tenn. According to company officials, the $100 million-worth headquarters being built will be called Nissan Americas. The completion of the 460,000-square-foot facility is set in mid-2008.

The new corporate headquarters is designed to accommodate over 1,500 employees. In order to finish the Nissan Americas, it will need materials that include 3,400 tons of structural steel, 575 tons of reinforcing steel and 23,000 cubic yards of concrete. Over the course of the project, 113,000 cubic yards of earth will be moved in and around the 50-acre site. The facility is designed with a bend in the middle to form an S shape. The shape symbolizes how Nissan vehicles move people.

The construction project is on schedule, and the footprint of the building is now visible, said Rob Traynham, the Nissan North America director of Security, Flight Operations and Facilities. Nissan Americas will be a striking addition to the business landscape in Franklin, but, more importantly, it will be at the center of value creation for all our operations.

Nissan Americas will comprise ten office floors and an underground level with two salons. The salons are designed for special reviews of new models or prototype vehicles. The salons could also function as a rendezvous for auto parts brainstorming. There, top officials could tackle and conceptualize the magic formula for the Nissan header pipe or other auto parts and car technologies.

The facility will reach a height of about 150 feet and will cover a total floor space of 460,000 square feet. Additionally, an adjacent parking garage will accommodate 1,135 vehicles and there also is a 10,000-square-foot employee fitness center which is currently being constructed on the western side of the parking garage structure.

Nissan Americas is especially designed to provide a roomy and dynamic work environment for employees. Inside the facility are huge, alternating atriums with open stairways that connect the main floors. Each floor includes informal meeting areas and video conferencing centers to encourage positive collaboration among employees. Until the facility is ready, Nissan employees will be working in the Bell South building in downtown Nashville.

The construction manager of the Nissan Americas project is the Skanska USA Building Inc. The design and engineering of the new facility of the automaker is created and supervised by Gresham, Smith and Partners.

Nissan North Americas operations include styling, design and engineering of vehicles. The company is also engaged in consumer and corporate financing, sales and marketing, as well as distribution and manufacturing.

The year 1933 saw the dawning of a new name for top-class driving pleasure. Nissan built trucks, airplanes and engines for the Japanese military. Federal tax breaks for purchasers of hybrid cars in the United States have started shrinking since fall. But according to the Internal Revenue Service, Nissan vehicles can continue to claim the Alternative Motor Vehicle Credit.

The IRS's quarterly review revealed that the Japanese automaker sold 2,094 qualifying vehicles to retail dealers in the quarter ending March 31, 2007. The allowable credit amount for the 2007 Altima Hybrid, Nissans only certified hybrid vehicle, is $2,350. Taxpayers are allowed to claim the full amount of the credit up to the end of the first calendar quarter after the quarter in which the manufacturer records its sale of the 60,000th vehicle. The announcement comes after the IRS concluded its quarterly review of the number of hybrid vehicles sold.

Taxpayers who seek the tax credit could purchase early because the full credit is only available for a limited period. They may also claim the full amount of the allowable credit up to the end of the first calendar quarter after the quarter in which the manufacturer records its sale of the 60,000th vehicle.

For the second and third calendar quarters after the quarter in which the 60,000th vehicle is sold, taxpayers may claim 50 percent of the credit. For the fourth and fifth calendar quarters, they may claim 25 percent of the credit. Nevertheless, no credit is allowed after the fifth quarter.

The Nissan Altima Hybrid Electric equipped with Nissan cornering lights is the automakers first hybrid car. The hybrid is equipped with a 2.5 L QR25DE engine, CVT and electric motor or generator. Nissan entered an agreement with Toyota Motor Corp. to use some of its hybrid technology to come up with all-new Altima. Also, the third largest Japanese automaker has asserted that succeeding hybrid models will be based on in-house hybrid technology.

Up to 40,000 Altima Hybrids are built at Nissan's Smyrna plant annually. For the 2007 model year, sales of the hybrid model are limited to California, Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, New Jersey, New York, Rhode Island, and Vermont. Other states will follow in subsequent years.

The IRS is stirring the hybrid car market, handing out some dreary tax credit news for the Toyota Prius along some good news for General Motors and Nissan. The moribund scale for tax credits prompted by the production limit will slash credits for Toyota and Lexus hybrids in half by the end of September, and to a quarter of the present rate next April. Still, full tax credits are available for Toyota's market-leading hybrids through the end of the current quarter. Moreover, it is expected that sales will be increased as purchasers rush to get the maximum tax break.

After reviewing Toyota's 2007 first quarter sales, the IRS has ruled that the Prius purchasers may continue to claim only a small tax credit. The total amount of the credit now available to a Prius purchaser is only $787.50.

The IRS also announced that purchasers of qualified GM hybrid vehicles may claim a tax credit ranging from $250 to $1,300. The GMC Sierra hybrid trucks and the Chevrolet Silverado hybrids carry a tax credit of $250 for two wheel drive models and $650 for four wheel drive models. The Saturn Vue Green Line has a $650 credit and the Aura Hybrid carries a $1,300 credit.

For this year, tax credits will still be available for the Ford Escape Hybrid 2WD ($2,600), Ford Escape Hybrid 4WD ($1,950), Honda Accord Hybrid AT ( $1,300), Honda Accord Hybrid Navi AT ($1,300), Honda Civic GX ($4,000), Honda Civic Hybrid CVT ($2,100), Lexus GS 450h ( $775), Lexus RX 400h 2WD and 4WD ($1,100), Mercury Mariner 4WD Hybrid ($1,950), Toyota Camry Hybrid ($1,300), and the Toyota Highlander Hybrid 2WD and 4WD ($1,300).

Nissan hits hard when they remodel their vehicles. The new Frontier is no exception. This truck finally has the power and looks to rival any of the competition. I wanted to help you in your shopping by pointing out the features I saw the other day on my test drive.

The 4.0 DOHC V6 puts 265 hp down and 284 lb-ft of torque. It feels like it can pull a house down. The new engine has an aluminum block and is very smooth. The 4-cylinder is no slouch. It puts down 154 hp and is much more balanced for a smooth like comparison to the V6.

The new, boxed frame is similar to the big brother Titans full size frame. The welded in cross members add to the midsize trucks rigid handling. Nissan went all out. This truck has a double wishbone suspension and leaf spring rear suspension. Drives like a car in the city, but the structure of a big truck for work or off road time. Speaking of off roading your 4x4 guys will like the 10.1 of ground clearance. Nothing is hanging down anymore. Add a skid plate to the 4WD model and some optional off road tires and you are ready to climb a hill with just the push of a 4WD button.

Technology was put into this bad boy, too. 4 wheel limited slip so that the wheels dont loose traction and a vehicle dynamic control. It keeps your truck in control by braking and engine controls to help maintain total vehicle control. Of course, it may not prevent an accident, but it sure could help on a rainy day.

My friend got the NISMO Frontier. It has the off road package and some special graphics along with Bilstein shocks. The interior was a unique as were the wheels. His was an automatic, and although he doesnt take it off roading, it sure did ride nice and it wasnt that much more with all of these options. He had a bed protector and the utili-track bed rail system. The tie down locations were limitless. It has two glove boxes. Yes, in the front where you only get one. The Nissan also had neat under seat storage and the front passenger seat folded up to provide a desk type surface.

The truck has been really well thought out. There are tons of air bags for protection on the sides, window curtains, and of course in front. ABS and brake assist (helps you apply more braking force if necessary) features along with the brake distribution (applies more braking power to the rear wheels balance the weight) helps remove safety as a concern.

The truck is truly a world-class midsize pickup and leads in most categories. I wish you had to opportunity to drive one as I did.

Nissan's first gas-electric hybrid vehicle is one of the best, but gas guzzling drivers don't make it any easier to share the roads. If you really want to annoy other drivers on the road, drive your hybrid as it's designed to be driven.

You'll hear a constant barrage of horns when you don't race off at the lights and most drivers will risk there lives to dodge around you when you keep to the posted speed limit.

It soon becomes obvious that most people still drive as if gas was still $2.00 a gallon and up until driving a hybrid, that included me. The Nissan Altima Hybrid, the company's first entry into the gas-electric hybrid market uses a 2.5-litre four cylinder engine from the conventional Altima, connected to a Toyota-sourced electric hybrid drive and a continuously variable transmission (CVT).

The Altima can run solely on battery power, the engine also shuts off when at idle, so there is absolutely no emmissions when your stuck in a traffic jam. The electric motor restarts it, so there is also no conventional starter to wear out. The first question people always ask is what's the replacement cost of the battery pack. The Altima hybrid system is covered by warranty for 8 years or 160,000km, if you need a replacement after that, Nissan estimates the cost at around $3,900.00.

I've driven many hybrid vehicles but I really like the Altima hybrid. The CVT transmission didn't have that rubber band feel and the handling was very crisp and accurate. If you are not willing to change your driving habits, you will have a harder time recovering the extra hybrid cost in your gas savings. If you live in an urban area with constant traffic you will immediately notice the benefits of a hybrid vehicle.

Nissan has always prided itself on sporty performance and the Altima hybrid does deliver. It's low end torque makes it feel like a V6 and the stiff platform handles the road admirably. But if you drive it like a sports car you will sacrifice the benefits of the hybrid system. The Altima hybrid is a great car and comes in top-of-the-line trim levels, including heated power adjustable cloth seats, automatic climate control, ABS, stability control and side & curtain airbags.

If you are in the market for a hybrid vehicle the Nissan Altima Hybrid is a serious contender.

The 2006 Nissan Titan is a world-class truck. This full size pickup is at the top of its class with 379 lb-ft of torque. I had an opportunity to test drive and look at the Titans when looking to purchase a full size truck. I looked at the Tundra, too. The Toyota is no slacker by any means, but this Titan is sharp.

Lets just start with the big silver 5.6 numbers you see on the back of the truck. That means it has the 305 hp V8 engine strong enough to tow 9500 lbs. It does have a fully boxed frame, so give up on those Ford commercials. Notice they only compare the Ford to the Dodge and Chevrolet pickups? Wonder why? No, I dont.

Closest comparison I can find to the Titans power is the F150 with the larger 5.4-liter engine. It has 300 hp and can tow as much as the Titan. But the tow package on the Titan comes with a lower final gear ratio to act more like a 4 speed automatic instead of a 5 speed. It also has a transmission temperature gauge and trailer brake controller prewired under the dash.

Now if you are more the off-roading type, youll like the electronic locking rear differential and the Rancho off-road shocks. It also has fog lights and skid plates which are a must have.

The Titan boasts most modern conveniences as the Tundra like braking distribution and shifting on the fly 4wd.

In my inspection of the 2005 and 2006 models, I did notice a neat feature. The tailgate weighs a ton, but on the 2006 model, it appears weightless. Nissan added gas shocks to aid in lowering and raising the tailgate. Pretty slick. The other really neat feature I found in this truck was the locking outside toolbox. Its a lockbox under the left rear tire, up under the fender. Theres a door and a locking latch to store other things, like tools and such. Its pretty cool. That has me on a bias towards the Nissan as if the other features didnt.

In the bed is a factory sprayed on bed liner and this neat utility track to hold stuff in place. Rather, it allows me to position ropes and tie downs where I need them. But inside, the interior has something to be desired. Looks like a 350Z nightmare. The steering wheel and gauge cluster is nice, but move over to the right of that and, I dunno, just not my taste.

There are 3 trim levels, XE, SE, and LE. The SE seems to be the most common and its nice. Not much difference as I can tell between an SE and LE. It is a nice truck and should be considered if you are shopping around as I am and have been.

Nissan Mexicana earlier celebrated the start of the Tiida in Europe. The ceremony was held in the port of Veracruz which can be found next to the Olympian Highway and it was held in the vessel that is taking a shipment of 600 Tiidas to Europe.

The remarkable ceremony was presided over by Shoichi Miyatani, the President and General Director of Nissan. The witnesses of honor include the governors of the states of Morelos and Veracruz, Marco Adame and Fidel Herrera, respectively; and by Hiroshi Yoshioka, the President of Nissans shipping subsidiary - the Nissan Motor Car Carrier. The event was also attended by other special guests. They all observed the loading of the units that left in the vessel for the old continent. This year, Nissan is expected to export some 12,000 Tiida units to Europe.

It could be recalled that on March 26, Nissan Europe announced the presentation of the Tiida model for the European market. Nissan added sales are set to begin June this year. The Tiida model, based on the new global Nissan B platform with stretched wheelbase, is the current addition to the automakers product lines in the continent. The crucial move is next to the launch of the striking Qashqai crossover.

In order to secure a good aftermath, the automaker has closely analyzed various European markets to identify the countries where there is a concentration of Nissan enthusiasts. The aim is to give those who are loyal to Nissan some more options in their next purchase of a vehicle. After the determination of the concentration, the automakers Civac plant was designated to serve as the center for the manufacture of the model.

The Tiida, a compact car in the sedan and hatchback versions, is equipped with gasoline and diesel engines mated to Nissan radiator hoses and it will be distributed in the Baltic countries including the auto markets of Estonia, Latvia, and Lithuania. Other territories covered by the Tiida invasion include Bulgaria, Croatia, Cyprus, The Czech Republic, Finland, Greece, Hungary, Ireland, Malta, Poland, Rumania, Russia, Slovakia, Slovenia and the Ukraine.

The Tiida is set apart from other models because it is quite tall. Its range consists of a five-door hatchback and a four-door sedan called the Nissan Tiida Latio. A station wagon called the Nissan Wingroad is introduced by the automaker in New Zealand. In China, the car is produced by the Dongfeng Motor Company which is a joint venture between Nissan and a local company. This year, the car is set to replace the Nissan Almera - a small family car. The British version will be called the Versa.

The Tiida is on sale in Japan and the United States and records prove that it is well accepted in the mentioned territories. Moreover, the automaker anticipates that same level of acceptance will be attained in Europe. Nissan targets an average of 30,000 sales annually.

With the start of exports of the Tiida to Europe, we reaffirm our commitment to the corporation and once again demonstrate the importance of our company in the global operations field, said Shoichi Miyatani, the President and General Director of Nissan Mexicana Nissan Mexicana.

Believe it or not, the Nissan Skyline has been around for some 45 years and has deservedly picked up many prestigious awards along the way. However, there was a 10 year period where production stopped, but delighted fans were over the moon when Nissan announced in 1989 that it would be releasing an all new GT-R Skyline.

The few years after the production of this stylish machine, the GT-R Skyline was awarded with the Japanese Touring Car Championship for Group 'A' touring cars. In 1994, because of its phenomenal success, the Nissan Skyline was given its own series. This series was aptly named the Japan GT Car series.

Although the Nissan Skyline was a much sought after motor in the United States of America, the Skyline GT-R was never made to comply with US standards, but all was not lost thanks to Motorex. Motorex imports and modifies the Nissan Skyline GT-R so that it complies with these standards and consequently these cars can then be released on American soil.

The Nissan Skyline GT-R is not a cheap car but it is a dream of many a young driver. Sadly for them, most only get to push the pedal to the floor by driving it via a computer screen. It's a real popular choice in computer racing games and for good reason.

Cars are more than just a means of transport, in fact many men treat their vehicles with the same tender loving care as they do to their women. Many people have become fascinated with motor cars and engines in the last 100 years as they have become cheaper and more available. Currently a huge trend exists in JDM (Japanese Domestic Market) engines and cars. These cars are not available in other car markets and are primarily made for the Japanese. The benefit of buying these cars second hand from Japan is that they have not usually done many kilometres and are available for relatively cheap.

Nissan used engines imported from Japan often have turbos and extractors as standard. Honda also has some very snazzy engines available and there is quite a trend developing in this line of cars also.

In Australia, currently, the laws allow people to import Nissan engines and other JDM engines and then register the cars as collectors. But the government is changing the rules to say that the cars must be of a certain age to allow this to happen, as too many people have been taking advantage of the law and bringing Nissan and Honda engines into the country and selling them for double what they bought them for in Japan.

The most popular model of Nissan that people like to import is probably the Skyline turbo. It's a lovely looking sports car and comes with all the addon features such as double overhead cam, turbo, extractors, sports exhaust and all the interior trimmings.

AB Volvo, the Swedish truck manufacturer, bids $1.07 billion Tuesday to acquire Japan's Nissan Diesel to establish a solid presence in Asia.

The bid was the latest attempt of the automaker to bolster its global presence. The said attempt would vest Volvo a full ownership of Nissan Diesel from the recent 19 percent to realize Volvos ambitions in Asia, where the automaker is lacking a local brand. Volvo has Mack Trucks in the United States and Renault Trucks in Europe hence; short of support in Asia.

Analysts say that the Volvo Cars division is doing just fine. It has earlier launched fresh vehicles that radiate new design philosophy. They boast of EBC Greenstuff, body parts, advanced amenities and safety features.

AB Volvo is the second largest truck maker around the globe next to Daimler Chrysler AG of Germany. On the other hand, Nissan Diesel is the fourth largest truck maker in Japan. To acquire Nissan Diesel could be the key for the much-awaited dominance in the auto truck market.

Volvo said it estimates Nissan Diesel's net interest-bearing debt at $1.07 billion, bringing the total cost of its planned acquisition of the Japanese truck maker to 15 billion kronor, or $2.14 billion. Iwao Nakamura, president of Nissan Diesel Motor Co. said the move will save costs in development and purchasing, including emission-reducing technologies, and present opportunities for efficient investments for long-term growth. What we want the most is growth, he told reporters at a Tokyo hotel. This move is the most effective way to achieve growth.

Chief Executive Leif Johansson said Volvo sped up the takeover plans to prepare for tougher emissions standards being introduced in Japan in 2010. It's important to do this deal now and not in few years, Johansson told reporters in Stockholm. We have some very important emission standards coming up and in the short term we can share R&D on that.

Analysts also expressed positive comments regarding the deal. They said it would help Volvo gain a foothold in Asia. By doing it now, the company can also avoid the risk of sharing strategic clean-engine technology with a possible competitor, said Danske Bank analyst Henrik Breum. You need to act now to be ready, he said. It is too dangerous to provide such research and development in shared efforts.

The 540 yen ($4.52) cash per share offer represents the premium of 32 percent. Said amount is based on Nissan Diesels average share price in the past three months. According to Nissan Diesel, its shared rose 18 percent in Tokyo to a bid-only 523 yen ($4.37), up from its Monday's close at 443 yen ($3.71). Consequently, Volvo shares were up 2 percent at 560 kronor ($79.70) in early trading after finished up 0.18 percent at 549 kronor ($59.40) in Stockholm a day earlier when news of the bid first broke.

Jorma Halonen, Executive Vice President of Volvo Group, said that Nissan Diesel would retain its name and that management will stay Japanese. Volvo is aiming for 20 percent to 25 percent market share in Asia, about the same share the group controls in the U.S. and Europe, Halonen said in Tokyo, without giving a target date.

Nissan Diesel's strengths in Asia, including Thailand and Indonesia, are a good complement for Volvo, Halonen said. He said 100 percent ownership will help quicken decision-making, likely to prove critical in keeping abreast of upcoming more stringent emission requirements around the world. Volvo added if approved by antitrust authorities, the deal would be completed by March 29.

During our joint synergy study, great trust grew between the companies and I believe that the merger is the best alternative for Nissan Diesel's future, Nakamura concluded.

The Nissan North America, the Japanese brands subsidiary, recently announced the price tag that would accompany the 2008 Altima Coupe when it hits showrooms all across the United States. The coupe is the latest addition to Nissans popular Altima lineup. The sporty coupe is slated to be released to the United States auto market by the 25th of May this year. The Nissan Altima Coupe brings to the table a sportier version of the Altima sedan as Nissan aims to attract the attention of car buyers who are looking for high performance cars. It comes with a choice between two engines and two transmission choices.

The first engine choice for the Nissan Altima Coupe is the 2.5 S. The 2008 Nissan Altima Coupe 2.5 S comes equipped with a six-speed manual transmission and it will have a starting price of $20,490. As the global community become increasingly aware of the global warming threat, the auto industry is hard at work to develop new technologies to be used on automobiles to make them more environments friendly. Nissan, the third largest Japanese car manufacturer, has already taken steps to help protect the environment. The company has released its Green Program which covers the steps they will take until the end of this decade. While the said program was announced last year, this year saw the company taking the necessary steps to achieve their goal.

One of the developments being pursued by Nissan is the production of a three-liter vehicle. The number means not the displacement of the cars internal combustion engine but the amount of fuel it will consume for every 100 kilometers. If Nissan can succeed to produce a car with fuel efficiency as that, they would pull in front of both Honda and Toyota in terms of fuel efficiency.

Converted to gas mileage, the proposed car will have a rating of a little more than 94 mpg. This may be an ambitious plan but Nissan has proven that they have what it takes to develop advanced technologies for their vehicles. While there is not a word yet from Nissan as to how the development of the three-liter car is going, the auto industry is waiting eagerly for the result.

With gas mileage such as that, even the fuel miser hybrid vehicles will be left far behind. The class leading Toyota Prius has a gas mileage rating of 51 mpg for city driving and 60 mpg for highway driving according to the Environmental Protection Agency or EPA. Even if that rating is true in real-world driving, it still falls short of the 94 mpg that the three-liter car will have. Aside from the three-liter vehicle, Nissan is also planning to add more flex-fuel vehicles to their current lineup. These vehicles will be able to run not only on gasoline but also on E85 - a combination of gasoline and bio-ethanol. Currently, most of Nissans flex-fuel vehicles are designed to run on E10, a fuel composed of ten percent bio-ethanol and 90 percent gasoline.

One Nissan vehicle already being sold in the United States auto market capable of running on 85 percent bio-ethanol is the Nissan Armada. In Brazil where bio-ethanol is abundant, Nissan will be marketing a vehicle which will be able to run on 100 percent bio-ethanol, eliminating its dependence on fossil fuels. In the United States, it would take a longer time for a Nissan vehicle capable of running on 100 percent bio-ethanol to be marketed. The reason for this is the scarcity of refilling station in the United States which offers bio-ethanol. In fact, this lack of refilling station is seen as a big problem for flex-fuel vehicles in the U.S. In fact, a recent study shows that 99 percent of flex-fuel vehicles on Americas road run on gasoline which beats the purpose of the vehicle.

Nissan is also committed to the development of technologies which will reduce carbon dioxide emissions. One of the technologies being used by Nissan to reduce the emission of greenhouse gases by their vehicles is the continuously variable transmission (CVT). This gearbox provides an almost infinite number of gear ratios between two preset gear ratios. This means that less power is wasted which translates to better fuel economy. Reduced amount of fuel being burned means lower greenhouse gas produced. The company also uses different exhaust gas filter s which treats the emission to make it safe for the environment in its route from the combustion chamber to the Nissan exhaust pipes.

Another technology being considered by the Japanese car manufacturer is the gas electric hybrid technology. While Nissan Chief Executive Officer Carlos Ghosn has expressed that hybrids are still impractical to both consumers and manufacturers, the company has already released a hybrid version of the Nissan Altima in the United States auto market. The powertrain used by the Altima hybrid is sourced from an independent supplier. Nissan is already developing a hybrid powertrain of their own and has announced that they will make it available in the market by the year 2010.

Further proof of Nissans commitment to the production of green cars is the opening of their new technology center in Japan. The said facility located in Atsugi at the Kanagawa Prefecture is where Nissan is developing advanced lithium-ion battery packs. The said battery technology will be use on their future hybrid vehicles. The said battery packs are lighter and more powerful than the current nickel-metal hydride battery packs that are used by hybrid vehicles. The former can also be used on fuel-cell vehicles although Nissan has not yet expressed their intention to build one. Ghosn said that diesel and flex-fuel vehicles are the most practical alternative fuel technology today.

Once again, Nissan is putting into practice with its all new Sentra model something that has succeeded for them in the past: push the model up market. As it first did with the Maxima and later with the Altima, Nissan has now promoted the Sentra to make room for the pending introduction of the subcompact Versa. With the all new model, Sentra fans will find a better equipped, more polished model then any other car that has ever worn the Sentra nameplate. Intrigued? You should be: the car simply goes where no Sentra has gone before: up market.

Over the years, plenty of automakers have taken a popular selling model and elevated it one notch. Why? For a few reasons: to capitalize on demand for the model a more luxurious version typically carries more profits with it then the base model. Instead of losing customers to another model [or worse, another make when they are ready to trade up, why not move up the model instead? Another reason: the introduction of a newer, but smaller model in the line up. For Nissan, the latter reason holds especially true as the subcompact Versa, a car built to compete against the likes of Scion enters the Nissan line up at about the same time.

The new Sentra is much more roomier than the previous model. In fact, it could be mistaken for a midsize car as it packs in an additional 10 cubic feet of interior space. Other surprises found with the 2007 Sentra include a center console/shifter and dual folding high back rear seats to maximize carrying potential. Importantly, front and side impact air bags are now standard and a whole host of options not previously available with the model can now be had. These options include: smart key accessibility, Bluetooth wireless, a sound system to die for.

Best of all, fuel mileage is exceptionally good. Mating a 2.0L I4 to a six speed manny tranny yields EPA estimated fuel results of 29 city/36 highway. These figures are likely to be at or near the top for any car in its category.

Yes, the Nissan Sentra is a pleasant surprise, one that the Nissan company hopes that you will notice. For people looking for a bargain basement model, the Sentra no longer qualifies. Instead, the tiny Versa takes over and it will deliver two things that Nissan knows you will love: exceptionally high gas mileage and an affordable price starting around $12,000. Look for well equipped Sentras to retail for around $18,000.

I just got back from the Memphis International Auto Show. They had a wide selection of all the best cars and trucks available. I got to spend time in the Nissan trucks without being prodded by sales people.

Of course, the Armada was my favorite. It seemed to have everything. Big 305hp engine, 5-speed automatic, aluminum wheels, running boards and even a rear sonar system was standard. Some of the neat frills and options I would have selected were the chrome grill, auto-leveling suspension and the power tailgate. Apart from the price, this was the flagship from Nissan.

The Pathfinder has been around for a while in name only because this Nissan has been completely redesigned. Its much more luxurious and modern on the interior, but still has ample power and features you?d expect from an SUV.

The Xterra seemed more like a young person?s SUV. Not that I?m old . . .but it was cheaper, sure, and it has tow hooks and bumper steps as standard so you can go offloading. Don?t think I?d take my Titan off roading. Still has all the famous features including a first aid kit. This truck is for the adventurous go-getter. The bed has the util-track cargo channel like the Nissan trucks so you can tie down all your cargo. It?s a smaller truck, but it had a good feel.

The Murano is a stylish and eclectic as ever. The dash looks a bit disturbing from outside the vehicle. I noticed several people passing by with ?yuck? comments, but once you got in, it looked fine and was appealing from the driver?s point of view. The appearance problem is the speedometer and tach are suspended on top of the dash, not a part of the dash. It does look odd, but it does go with the general styling of the vehicle. It?s a nice vehicle, but its more for city driving. Compare this to the Toyota Highlander.

The Titan Truck is an Armada with a bed. Thankfully, it?s a little cheaper. It is a good looking truck and one of my favorite features on the SE and LE models is the little storage box behind the rear tire, on the fender. That?s thoughtful and handy. Sure, it doesn?t have an in bed trunk like the Honda Ridgeline, but its still all truck.

The Frontier Nismo edition is a great truck with tons of features at a reasonable price. This could easily go from a daily drive to work truck in the same breath. The huge 265 hp V6 can tow up to 6500 pounds. The utility track cargo system and factory spray on bed liner enhances this vehicles work place superiority.

If money grew on trees, I?d have an Armada or a fully loaded titan. But on my budget, that pathfinder is an exceptional SUV. This Frontier Nismo Edition pickup is loaded with goodies at a price lower than you?d imagine.

A nerf bar is one that is going to add to the classic look of a truck, any truck that has an open bed. A nerf bar is going to be made of plastic, metal, of rubber, and can include the color of any you may like. A nerf bar is one that is going to be up the sides of the back of the bed of the truck, and the bar will come across the top of the cab. If you have ever seen people in the back of a truck, holding on while the truck is speeding down the dirt road, that is a nerf bar, but most nerf bars are for display and not for holding on really!

A nerf bar is also going to be the bar that is on the side of the truck that you step up on to get in the truck. Not only are nerf bars included on trucks, but you will also find them on blazers, on explorers and all types of SUVs that are a little taller than the average car. A truck or SUV with a nerf bar on the side to get up and into the truck is going to be made of some type of heavy metal, often times they are round, or they can be flat, but if looks like a long bar along the side of the SUV or truck.

Nerf bars are also the types of bars that are connected to the truck on the front or rear of the vehicle. A nerf bar is going to make the truck or SUV look tough, feel as if you are driving something that is invinsible, and at the same time it is going to add that flair to the truck or SUV that no other is going to have. The nerf bars on the back or on the front of a truck are for show only; they are not going to do the same protective things that a bumper will provide for the vehicle. A nerf bar on the front of on the back of the vehicle can be made from metal, plastic or it can be made of a combination.

The nerf bar on the back, the front, up in the bed of a truck or along side the truck are all going to be paintable. Most all are made of a material that are paintable so that they will match the vehicle that you are driving. The only ones that are not paintable will be the chrome type of nerf bars that will be added to the vehicle. The chrome types of nerf bars are meant to be shiny and clean, and will not hold paint well at all. Aluminum, plastic, and even the metal nerf bars can be painted, and they will then match the rest of the vehicle.

Which Is The Better Buy Subaru Wrx Sti Or The Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution?

One of the hardest decisions is deciding to buy a WRX STI or a Lancer Evolution. Both of the cars are very similar and are fantastic. The new MR edition (Mitsubishi Racing) has created a more competition for the WRX this year. The MR edition is not as quite as nice as the British version that sports 342 HP and a 60 thousand dollar price tag but it is better than last years Evolution. The new Lancer has 5 more ponies than last years model and has many more features that give the STI a run for its money.

We will start out with the Lancer Evolution MR edition. The lancer starts slightly under $35,000 and has many added benefits from last years Evolution. For starters it has more power because of redesigned airflow to the turbo, something that I believe should have happened a long time ago. Some say the biggest change is the new BBS wheels, the wheel way almost 3 pounds lighter than last years model. Also the true auto enthusiasts will spot the MR edition different with the cool new badging, and around the rear window the impressive ?shark teeth? which are vortex generators with the ability to create 35% less lift at 110 mph and helps the wing create more down force by reducing turbulence.

Now for the 2005 Subaru WRX STI, the car just goes to show that Subaru is one tough competitor. When you sit down in the car the first thing you notice is the smaller diameter steering wheel, a smaller wheel creates more of a rally sport feel to the auto. Next is the redesigned helical type front limited slip differential. It does a much better job transferring power to those front wheels for added handling. Next is the braking, the brakes on the WRX have been upgraded via adjustable ABS controller that allows more feedback from the brakes to the driver.

In conclusion both of the cars have almost identical performance numbers with the Mitsubishi coming out slightly I mean slightly ahead. But having only 1000 MR Mitsubishis built will put a dampener on sales. I think this is and will continue to be one of the best rivalries in the import community. So I say let the battle for rally bred street supremacy go, all it will bring is better and better cars by both manufacturers.

American and French Car Manufacturers: Purging Without Imagination?

The hardening of the plan of reorganization of Ford did not convince anybody, and especially not the financial markets. How else could it have been if the manufacturer has adopted a traditional strategy of reduction of the costs? Admittedly, this purging will inevitably have a positive impact on the accounts. But it is not likely to start it again if Ford is on the way of the development whereas its marketshares decrease unrelentingly on the other side of the Atlantic. A report which is also worth for its large American competitor General Motors. The fact that GM removed, during ten last years, 60 % of its manpower did not draw it from the rut.

For the American manufacturers, the report is clear: their offer does not answer the expectations of the market. Their enormous 4?4 is penalized by the rise of the gasoline. They are not present enough on the segment in growth of the crossover, these 4?4 equipped with a truck motorization. And, next to them, the Asian ones (Toyota, Honda, Nissan, Hyundai) show more inventiveness in increasingly required vehicles of niche. Because, in the car as in other industries, such as the pharmacy or technologies information, the key of success resides more than ever in the innovation, the capacity to put quickly on the market original and effective products. Thus FIAT, which one did not give chances of rectification not so long time ago, today is having a spectacular come-back success thanks in particular to the success of its new Punto.

In the opposite direction, is the splendid isolation of Jean-Martin Folz at PSA the good solution when the Volkswagen group is seen, reinforced by Audi, Seat and Skoda, today's leader in Europe?

2006 Nissan Titan a Class Act

The 2006 Nissan Titan is a world-class truck. This full size pickup is at the top of its class with 379 lb-ft of torque. I had an opportunity to test drive and look at the Titan?s when looking to purchase a full size truck. I looked at the Tundra, too. The Toyota is no slacker by any means, but this Titan is sharp.

Let?s just start with the big silver 5.6 numbers you see on the back of the truck. That means it has the 305 hp V8 engine ? strong enough to tow 9500 lbs. It does have a fully boxed frame, so give up on those Ford commercials. Notice they only compare the Ford to the Dodge and Chevrolet pickups? Wonder why? No, I don?t.

Closest comparison I can find to the Titan?s power is the F150 with the larger 5.4-liter engine. It has 300 hp and can tow as much as the Titan. But the tow package on the Titan comes with a lower final gear ratio to act more like a 4 speed automatic instead of a 5 speed. It also has a transmission temperature gauge and trailer brake controller prewired under the dash.

Now if you are more the off-roading type, you?ll like the electronic locking rear differential and the Rancho off-road shocks. It also has fog lights and skid plates which are a must have.

The Titan boasts most modern conveniences as the Tundra like braking distribution and shifting on the fly 4wd.

In my inspection of the 2005 and 2006 models, I did notice a neat feature. The tailgate weighs a ton, but on the 2006 model, it appears weightless. Nissan added gas shocks to aid in lowering and raising the tailgate. Pretty slick. The other really neat feature I found in this truck was the locking outside toolbox. It?s a lockbox under the left rear tire, up under the fender. There?s a door and a locking latch to store other things, like tools and such. It?s pretty cool. That has me on a bias towards the Nissan as if the other features didn?t.

There are 3 trim levels, XE, SE, and LE. The SE seems to be the most common and it?s nice. Not much difference as I can tell between an SE and LE. It is a nice truck and should be considered if you are shopping around as I am and have been.

2006 Mitsubishi Raider: A Rebadged Delight!

If you were to examine the new Mitsubishi Raider, your eyes would behold the unmistakable triad logo centered in the middle of its beefy looking grille. However, as you let your eyes run the full length of the truck?s body and take a look at its styling cues, you would see something different, yet very familiar. Indeed, apart from some fascia, body, and cabin changes, the Raider is without a doubt a Dodge Dakota. Yes, the tables have been reversed and Mitsubishi?s pick up truck is now a Dodge instead of the other way around. Beyond the obvious similarities there are some differences between the models that gives the Raider a uniqueness all of its own.

Back during the 1970s and 1980s when Chrysler needed small cars and trucks to fill out its limited line up, the company tapped its business relationship with Mitsubishi to supply what it needed. Included in the mix was a small pick up truck, most recently the D50. When Chrysler developed the midsized Dakota during the late 1980s, the need for the small Mitsubishi truck decreased and by the early 1990s the D50 was no more.

Mitsubishi for its part has long been a builder of small trucks, but as the automaker began to sell vehicles in the North American market, its line up has grown appreciably. Demand for a small Mitsubishi pick up truck dropped so the ?Mighty Max? was discontinued from its line up. Eventually, the automaker decided to partner with DaimlerChrysler to sell rebadged Dakotas as Raiders.

The relationship is smart as the Raider fills a void for Mitsubishi while allowing DaimlerChrysler to keep its truck building capacity high. As odd as the relationship may seem, Isuzu and General Motors are doing the same thing as both Isuzu vehicles sold in the U.S. are rebadged GMC trucks.

So, what sets the Raider apart from the pact, particularly its Dodge cousin? Price for one. Starting out at around $19,000, the truck is priced as low as some of the smaller trucks on the market including the popular Toyota Tacoma. Apparently, Mitsubishi wanted to have an entry level model to meet expected demand. Yes, bare bones versions of the Tacoma can be had for much less, but that is what you get, bare bones. There is no four cylinder Raider sold, you either get a 210 h-p V6 or a beefy 230 h-p V8 to power your Raider. The V8 is especially appealing to those who tow as its pulling capacity is a respectable 6500 lbs. Tranny choices include either 4 or 5 speed automatics or a 6 speed manny tranny.

The Raider comes available as either a 4x2 or a 4x4 and with two or four door cab configurations. Seating capacity can be as high as six passengers although you wouldn?t be as comfortable riding in a Raider/Dakota with six people as you would be in a full sized Ram.

What many Raider fans will like is the extra care Mitsubishi gave to the interior. Unlike the Dakota, the Raider comes with trim features more akin to a sedan than to a pick up truck. Sirius satellite radio, Alpine speakers, front bucket seats with heated leather surfaces, and power everything are some of the features that make the Raider much more than a truck.

Ten years after the last ?Mighty Max? pick up trucks were sold by Mitsubishi, a new truck has entered the fold thanks to an important relationship with DaimlerChrysler. Perhaps the success of this relationship will spawn additional model sharing. Could we see a rebadged Dodge Ram soon sold as a Mitsubishi? In these days of extensive model sharing, anything is possible.

Will Renault Return to the U.S.?

Back during the 1980s Renault cars, in alliance with the now defunct American Motors Company [AMC, were sold at American dealers. Once Chrysler purchased AMC, Renault retreated and quit selling cars in the US. A recent announcement by Renault that the U.S. market may once again be a candidate for Renault cars has been met with only tepid enthusiasm by the automotive press. Will Renault return? More importantly: does anyone care?

Renault's exit from the US during the late 1980s was hardly noticed by most consumers. As makers of the tiny LeCar, the compact Alliance, and the midsize Medallion/Eagle Premier, not much distinguished Renault from the competition.

Today, Renault is quite a different company with a very different outlook and product line. Ever since its purchase of the Nissan Motor Company, Renault's focus has shifted from a predominately European stage to a global stage. With Nissan technology incorporated into many current vehicles, Renault quality and reliability levels have risen. This is good news as Renault previously was criticized in the US for building poorly made cars. Better made cars than AMC, but not rising to the quality level that many had expected.

Press reports indicate that Renault will tackle the Chinese market first before even considering the US...if ever. Is it because Americans remember the poorly made Renault products of the past that is behind the company's hesitancy to reenter the market? Or, could it be Renault's perception that America doesn't much like the French right now?

We don't know for sure, but I am guessing that it is a little bit of both. Regardless, a high quality affordable Renault automobile would be a welcome change to the junk sold here a generation ago. Let's hope that Renault has learned a valuable lesson from Nissan on how to build and sell a top quality product. If so, then bring them here.

The Nissan Maxima offers a combination of performance, luxury and interior room at a very competitive price. This family sedan sits in the same class as the Volkswagen Passat and Mazdaspeed 6.

The Maxima badge has been around since 1982 and has always boasted the one of the best V6 power plants in the industry. The latest version continues this trend.

Sitting in the market, above the Nissan Altima, the Maxima has a distinct presence on the road and positions itself firmly in the center of its competitors.

The base model SE is the sporty model with a firm suspension and 18-inch wheels, while the more luxury-oriented SL has 17-inch wheels and a slightly softer suspension. The interior is spacious, while the V6 offers a balanced ride with superb handling and array of luxury extras and options. Amongst the competition, the Volkswagen Passat has a big V6 engine, more a luxurious interior with better material finish, and more road-feel.

The 2007 Nissan Murano is both innovative and reliable, with several new features that offer safety and convenience. Impressive new features include the Murano's available Intelligent Key and Direct Ignition, which, with the touch of a button automatically unlocks and starts the car as the driver approaches, and also Xtronic CVT, which allows for shiftless transmission, to make for a smoother ride.

The 2005 Nissan Frontier has new 4.0-litre DOHC V-6, based on Nissan's VQ series engines, produce 265 horsepower and 284 lb.-ft. of torque and give the Frontier more power than the Dakota V-8 and enough strength to pull 2,950 kilograms (6,500 pounds). It is the most powerful V-6 offered in a mid-size pickup. The third generation Frontier, which is offered in both King Cab and Crew Cab body configurations, has innovative spray-in bedliner and Utili-track(TM) bed channel tie-down system, rugged truck styling and fully boxed, all-steel frame based on the Titan "F-Alpha" platform

The new Frontier is designed to deliver exceptional levels of acceleration, handling and braking, towing capacity and off-road capability. The Frontier features a newly designed 4.0-liter DOHC V6 rated at 250-plus horsepower and 270-plus lb-ft of torque and a choice of 2-wheel or 4-wheel drive with advanced off-road technology. The new engine is part of the acclaimed Nissan VQ engine series utilized in the Nissan 350Z, Maxima, Altima, Murano and Quest.

Some of the features of the Frontier's new 4.0-liter include an aluminum block with cast iron cylinder liners, forged steel crankshaft, micro finished crankshaft and camshaft, molybdenum-coated pistons, Nissan variable Induction Control System (NICS), Continuous Valve Timing Control (C-VTC), and a silent two-stage timing chain.

The back end remains a solid axle setup for the suspension, while the front steps up a double-wishbone layout with high-pressure performance coil over gas shocks and a stabilizer bar. The top tire will be a 17-incher, with 265/65R17 rubber. Four-wheel disc brakes with ABS and EBD (Electronic Brake force Distribution) are standard across the lineup.
